| car sickness Can anyone recommend something to give to my dogs that get car sick? Something natural? Two of them tend to throw up as we drive. They are in car seats, so they are up higher and can see outside, which I thought was supposed to help. One of them never used to get sick but all of a sudden - barf. Thanks! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've always heard ginger works for motion sickness. Do you live near a Whole Foods or anything where you could poke around the supplement area and maybe find something?

| Yep there are a couple of places that sell vitamins and supplements, etc.... I'm just afraid to give them something without knowing how much and if it is safe for them. |

| Many of the show people use Bonine to prevent motion sickness in their puppies/dogs. The dosage is 1/2 pill about an hour prior to trip. Bonine differs from Dramamine in that it does not cause drowsiness and leaves the dog alert and aware. Many divers use Bonine for this reason as well. I've spoken to both my Vet and my sons Neurologist about Bonine and both have stated that they are very comfortable with it's use and value. Now, I know that you asked for an all natural remedy and this probably doesn't neatly fit into that category, but it is very widely used by the most professional of show breeders when traveling. |

| one of our girls,, Daisy,, gets car sick,, and we have a RX for her now,, Cerenia,, given 30 minutes before we leave for a trip, ,works wonderfully well, does not dope her up,, simply keeps her from becoming ill,, though she (who gobbles everthing) does not want to eat the tablet,, I give it to her in a pill pocket,, as i checked their website and it says not to give it in cheese or anything with too much grease or oil such as cheese or lunch meat,, it works great,, but is on the expensive side, at the vets office,, was $25 for the 4 pills,, so i got a written RX and sent in to Drs Foster & Smith,, where i now get it for $10 for the same box of 4 pills,, and then the vet told me to try BONINE,, 1/2 a tab 30 minutes before a trip,, much cheaper and safe for the dogs, I now have gotten some,, but havent tried it yet,,, and Trixie and Daisy both will get sick in my car (Mustang), yet not much in the truck,, but poor Daisy will still, but not nearly so bad as in my car,, and my Cricket,, is a little trooper,, she rides like a PRO!! loves to ride in my car, and on my motorcycle with me,, LOVES IT,, and never gets sick, they are all different,, just like people!! good luck!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | yes it is. you can ask your vet for a dosage. Cerenia is also a new medication that works great for car sickness and nausea/vomiting (different doses or different problems). We give it in hospital to our patients.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmmm....well, if you reeeeaaallly wanted a good answer, you could get in touch w/ an animal nutritionist - I've used one, EllieMay's mom has, other's have. They're not cheap, but I kinda wonder if you emailed them and asked if there was any way they could JUST recommend (at a "cheaper" consult price) the correct dosage/homeopathic combo for ginger or a ginger combo for motion sickness....? Just a thought.
