Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | So worried and upset! Marty needs your prayers... You guys may remember THIS thread where Marty had scabs on his ears and the vets couldn't figure out what was wrong. Well, they eliminated ringworm as a possibility. There isn't any growth on the sample they took nearly three weeks ago even now so that's out. Now they are treating it as if it's allergies, but the scabs have spread and cover almost all of the top half of both of his ears as well as about a quarter of the back of each ear. We have Prednisone (steroids are good for allergies), a special shampoo, a topical ointment, and an antibiotic. If the scabs are still there in two weeks, the vet is going to do a biopsy to see if he has vasculitis. I am so scared for him. First of all, the biopsy will be painful. They will be taking a pretty big chunk of skin from his ear (several chunks actually), they have to put him to sleep using anesthesia which is a little dangerous, and they'll be keeping him overnight. If it IS vasculitis, that could mean that there's an underlying autoimmune disease such as lupus. I am just so sad and scared for my little guy. It is breaking my heart to think of him sick or in pain. Please please if you think of it, keep him in your thoughts and prayers for the next two weeks that this will be just an allergy of some kind. The alternative is just too scary... |

| I'm sorry. Did they rule out mange? Does he scratch or did these scabs just appear out of nowhere?

He doesn't scratch, doesn't seem to be in pain, doesn't mind if you touch it or rub his ears, put medicine on it or anything. By his actions, you'd never even know it was there. | |

| I will pray for handsome little Marty . With any luck it is allergies which can be easily managed. Try not to worry even though that is easier said than done.

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | Thanks everyone! I am hoping and praying it's nothing serious as well. Marty is asleep on my lap right now. He doesn't even know that anything is wrong, just that everyone keeps looking at his ears and rubbing stuff on them. I love him so much. He's my baby and it breaks my heart to think that he might be sick. |
