| What food can I switch to? -Parker is FAT Parker needs to go on a diet. we have stopped giving him treats and table food when he begs. Maybe the Royal Canin is too fattening. Has anyone switched and had success? I tried the green beans for treats, but Parker threw up from them. I am just worried because he has a small frame and is getting round. Thanks |

| I would suggest Innova, Artemis, Canidae, or Chicken Soup

| he is around 8 pounds now. He has more trouble jumping up on the ottoman where he likes to sit! He is almost 2 1/2 years old. I only give him around 1/2 cup split up in morning and night feedings. |

| 1/2 cup isn't much food. When Ellie ate Science Diet she ate about 1/2 cup a day and she was 5 pounds. I'm not sure that RC is working for him. Maybe go to something else?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | hmm 1/2 a cup is what i'm feeding my 4.5lb girl. so that doesn't seem like a lot of food. I feed Wellness and Solid Gold Wee Bits. both big hits. The royal canin does have more fat in it then the ones i feed and some of the other premium foods. Maybe that is the problem.

| I know that Innova has a Low Fat kibble. Maybe you could give that a try!

| My Oliver went to the vet yesterday and I was told he needed to lose 1-1.5 pounds. He is currently 12 pounds and I was feeding him a 3/4 cups a day... I'm lowering it to 2/3 cup... I'm hoping that will help out- Try lowering his food intake slightly and see if that helps... with daily walks? Goodluck

| The amount of food sounds right on...but you did say he was getting lots of table scraps and treats so I would imagine cutting them out would be a good idea..get a high quality treat as they arent packed full of calories and mine dont go nuts for them because they dont taste like "candy" we buy Performatrin treats...they are $8 a bag but they only get one a day..or you can also try putting a few treats in a toy that drops out the treat as it rolls..that way he has to work for his treat and you can measure the amount of treats he gets...good luck!! | Thanks for all your help everyone. I had decided to try Artemis or Canidae after researching them, but we went out to the pet place and didn't find anything, so I got some Science Diet Nature's Best. I mixed a little of the RC, and he really went for it! We shall see if it agrees with him! |
