| It depends what you are using them for. There are certain ones that are fine and others that would be too strong. You can give fish oil. If you are feeding dog food I would not add an actual vitamin. That stuff is so full of synthetic vitamins already that it would be too much. Is there one you are thinking about in particular?

| Are you homecooking or feeding a commercial diet? If you are homecooking, Dr. Jean Dodds recommends giving an infant (not child's) liquid multivitamin. If you are feeding a commercial kibble or canned food, you should not add a multivitamin. It has already been nutritionally calculated and adding a multivitamin can mess up the balance and actually be harmful. It's fine to add fish oil for fatty acids and other supplements for specific conditions. In Lady's case, she gets Cosequin for her arthritis, Marin for liver support, fish oil for her allergies, and I also give her Transfer Factor (colostrum) for immune system support. |
