| Calling All Picky Eaters' Mommies/Daddies Hey, I brought Mochi (5 months old) home for a month now. I successfully changed her food to Solid Gold Puppy from Beneful. After 2 weeks, she said she had enough. Then I tried California Natural, she is still on the trial package and I am still not sure if she likes to stick with it or not (sometimes she eats sometimes she doesn't). I tried Wellness, Innova, she didn't even touch them. Besides dry kibbles, I also give boiled carrot and broccoli which she likes very much, in addition to that, I also give a little bit of Merrick canned food (sauce only) to go with the veggies. In terms of treats, same old story. She likes cheese for 2 weeks, then quit. She likes strawberry flavor cheerios for a day, then decided to hate it. I am concerned about her eating habit, she is already very small; she was 2.25 lbs when I got her, and now she is only 2.07 lbs. So need some opinion here......... My questions are: 1) Do you have one picky eater like this? If so...... 2) What brand of food do you give that makes them crazy about it? 3) What kind of treat do you give that they still in love with? Thanks. |

| I would like to know too. My Muffy wont eat either. I have a lab that I Have to feed Old Roy to. Well Little Miss Priss wants to eat that. She went a whole week without eating and I had to take her to the vet. They told me to put cottage cheese in her food. I dont that it only lasted two days and went back to not eating. She does not get treats for she doesnt like them. I have never had this problem. The lady at Pet Smart was trying to be smart. I was talking to my Dh about it and she was like just leave it there she will eat it. I told her I tryed it and it didnt work and we had to go to the vet. She said she isnt going to starve herself. I told her you dont know my dog. I dont give people food either. I need help with you!!

| Same here. Tucker is the pickiest dog eater I've ever seen. He likes new stuff for about a day and then turns his nose up at it. Right now he will consistently eat boiled chicken with a little rice and green beans, but I have a hard time getting him to eat anything at all. I almost always have to hand feed him. I would love to find something that he loved and have even considered going raw, but we live far away from any pet stores (at least an hour) that carry the food recommended here. He always has Royal Canin sitting out for him, but could care less. The only food he's interested in is trying to sneak food from mommy and daddy while they're eating. |

| Our Pookie was the pickiest eater ever the first year (last year). We had to switch foods every few days or she'd refuse to eat, then get nauseated on an empty stomach and throw up. We went through every food we could think of. She would only eat a few Wee Gold kibbles here and there, not enough for a growing pup. We made her little ground chicken patties, ground veal patties, ground lamb patties, chicken livers (she lasted on that slightly longer) and she'd eat Cesar's which is like a fast food diet for dogs, not good, but it was better than starvation. We also sent for the dehydrated whole grain and veggie premix that you add your own meat to. Finally, around a year, she decided she liked Wellness canned (green can) containing lamb and fish and yams (sounds disgusting but she loved it) and ate it for months. Then she got an allergy to that, so now she's on Royal Canin non-allergic with potato and duck. She's still itching though, so don't know how long that will last. We may go back to the dehydrated grain, veggie, add-your-own-meat diet. That was pretty easy, since you just simmer the dehydrated stuff for a while and then add your own meat--raw or cooked. But she's a lot less fussy now that she's older. |

| $ Well it seems you have spent way too much money and been way stressed about this and i hope i can help. Find a grain free high end food that makes you feel good like canidae, solid gold, or orijen...i use orijen IF your furkid decides she doesnt want it after two weeks like all the other foods then you can either homecook or just make it known to her that you arent changing her food. offer her food 4 times a day in small amounts and if she doesnt eat it within 30 min take it away until the next feeding time. eventually she will get hungry and eat. after a while she will figure it out and will eat it with no fusses. if she goes two meals without eating then give her a few teaspoons of nutrical. My yogi loves orijen puppy and orijen fresh 6 fish and gobbles it up but sometimes he has his fussy moments, gets hungry and eats eventually. It just all depends on how much money you wanna keep wasting on changing foods all the time. orijen has trial size bags you can get and you can change which kind of orijen she eats every week or so. one trial bag lasted yogi about 2 weeks. its all on you but id definately stick to a brand and just change up the flavor every couple weeks if needed. its like 3 bucks per trial bag for about 2 weeks of food so it isnt too bad and wont eat a hole in your wallet and it is less wastful hope everything gets better. |

| Thanks for all your advice. Mochi just declared that she was fat up with California Natural. I also tried to give her Orijen which I give to my another Yorkie boy, Kimchee, she sniffed it once and bounced back a few feet away. It looks like she hates it that much! Haha!

| Bandit is the worst eater I have ever encountered in my life. He is back to his no eating for days on end. He is currently eating check this. BABY FOOD by syringe, even with the arrival of the new puppy he is still not eating. Since scooby died it is like he went into depression. the new puppy is eating nicely but Bandit wont eat. He has always been a horrible picky eater from the minute he came home to me at 11 weeks old . He is withering away and living on nutrical and syringe food of which I cnt give him much or he spits it out. He just wont eat, it breaks my heart to see him wither away. NO, he is not sick, hopefully the light meds he is on will help him sort out his grief, he is still missing scooby. I will give him anythign if he will eat, but he wont. Today I am cooking his normal feeding Rice barley carrots chicken and some little offa mix of liver, kidney, gizzard and hearts, which i will put lightly in themixture. He lived on this while scooby was here and ate it lavishly for three months, then scobby died, he STOPPED complately. I am hoping by putting the little hint of offal in the mixture he will eat it, but not guaranteed as he may sniff and realize it is DIFFERENT . So for now, it is baby pureed food by syringe He wont touch canned foods at all nor would be eat kibble. Once in a blue moon he may have 5 to 10 mini kibbles and that is like a huge celebration here Last edited by soccbydo; 01-29-2008 at 03:24 AM. |

| My little girl is the Queen of picky eaters. The only luck I have is with Raw from NV. No canned, no kibble, no homecooked would do. And I tried them ALL. I went 75 miles away from my house and bought EVERY kind of 6 star food they sold and tried them all, no luck. And its not true that a dog wont starve themselves, Chloe has. She now has a pancreas condition thanks to her food strikes. My best advice is to find something that fits the nutritional needs and give it in small meals at scheduled times. Dont leave it down for more than 30 min. and dont offer any other foods or snacks. Dont beg or conjoil(sp)to get them to eat. M girl is now spoiled and thinks Im suspose to hand feed her, big mistake on my part. Try to not be guilt tripped by them. These little boogers are smart. Good luck. |

| My two girls are super picky. I have switched to so many different brands, that I couldn't even count them anymore. All they want are canned food... talk about spoiled! I wished I could help you, but I am almost in the same position as you.

| Ughh! Lexie is the same way. What the pet store had her on was Nutro Puppy and before I had done any research the vet put her on Purina. Ever since I found out that she needed better food I went on a quest to find anything higher quality. I drove 45 minutes and searched every pet store and came up with Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul as the only quality food. Lexie picks at it and definitely doesn't eat enough to keep her healthy. If she does eat any I praise her like there is no tomorrow! I've limited treats too, because they're the only thing she'll eat. I gave her a brand new yorkie yummy yesterday and she went crazy over it. Later in the day I gave her another and once again she did backflips, then after another few hours she came when called and I gave her another and she stuck up her nose! She won't touch them now! I'm so frustrated with her and I have no time to get to another town to try to find more food and ordering off the net to get something she still may not like is crazy! Sorry so long I just wanted to join the mommies of picky eaters club. |
