| Gets tired of food? Do you cycle thru different kinds? Hi, I currently have my 2 Yorkies on Bil Jac's and they loved it when I first started them on it, and now the one is getting tired of it. He only likes to eat when I sog it down with warm water. I prefer to give them the food hard, to help keep the teeth clean, and I try to save softening it as a treat. But lately, that's the only way he eats it. Otherwise, he doesn't eat. And he's such a little guy (about 5 lbs) that I don't like for him to miss too many meals. But then when I get samples of other foods, they both go nuts for it (because it's new!) and then after a few bags, they tire of it. Partly, I can't blame them- who wants to eat the same stuff all the time? But then I want to do what is best for their health. I thought about cycling thru maybe 2 or 3 kinds of dog food- maybe changing every 6 mos? What do you think? How else do you handle a picky eater? We've had them on Eukanuba Puppy from pups, and after 1 yr old tried: Wellness- didn't like Solid Gold Wee Bits- didn't like Purina Pro Plan- didn't like and then the Bil Jac's which they have been liking until recently. They don't mind the Royal Canin "Yorkie flavor" but will they tire of that in a few months? Teresa |

| If I fed kibble I would most definately rotate. Keeping a dog on the same food for too long can cause acquired allergies. It isn't really necessary to feed kibble if you don't want. I think if you feed canned or kibble you still need to brush their teeth anyway. Ellie ate kibble for 5 years and had severe periondontal disease, so that doesn't really work. Be careful with the Royal Canin. Some Yorkies (including mine) get the itchies from it and it takes a long time to get rid of. Some dogs do fine with it though. If you want to stick with kibble have you tried Innova, Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Artemis? I feed homecooked but if I were to go back to dog food it would probably be Evangers canned (not Evangers kibble).

| I just started home cooking for him this past weekend, but when I fed Izzy kibble I rotated every 3 months, which is about how long the 5lb bags would last. I rotated between: Merricks (his least favorite lol), Canidae (loved it!), Solid Gold Wee Bits and Wellness. I think it is a good idea to change too, plus you can get a good idea of what they really like.

| My plan is to rotate food, they really love the Canidae but their eyes run so after this bag gets closer to being done, I am going to mix in some Innova and switch them slowly. Maybe after that I will switch to another brand and just keep rotating. Nobody should eat the same stuff for their entire life!

| I forgot to add that while switching is good, it isn't recommended to use every exotic protein source available because if your dog does develop allergies to most things there will be nothing to go to later.
