Default Nature's Variety Instinct & Medallions

Hello All!

A few months ago we switched the pups to Nature's Variety Instinct dry food, and we are very happy with the switch. I have done a lot of research on the brand and am happy with what I am feeding my dogs. But I have learned that it is perfectly ok to alter their diet within the NV brand, so we have some of the canned Instinct food (which they love, what dog doesn't love wet food?) and today I bought a bag of the NV frozen medallions. So my question to those who have been feeding the medallions is this: how do you prepare the food? Do you put it in water? Microwave it? Let them lick at it 'til it thaws? I'm just curious how all of you feed the medallions to your pups. Our dogs are both right around 4 lbs, so they get either 1/8 cup of dry food, 1/3 a can of wet food, or 1 medallion per meal, as per the suggested servings on the NV website. How many medallions do you all feed if that is the only food they get that day (in comparison to the size of the pup, if you please)?

I am so happy with this brand of food. My fat little pup has lost the extra fat, and my lean little guy has put on some muscle, and they are both eathing the same thing. That's the sign of a good food, if you ask me.

I've been feeding Lacy NV raw medallions for a year and a half. She's 7.5lbs and eats 4 medallions a day. I thaw them out overnight in the refrigerator. I then tear them into smaller pieces and feed them to her. I feed her twice a day. You shouldn't microwave them since that cooks them partially and you want to feed them raw. There are a lot of threads in this section about raw feeding and NV raw in particular that might give you more info

That great!!!!!! Marcel (3 pounds) gets 2 medallions a day, Wylie (7.5 lbs) gets 4 medallions a day. I love the NV so far. Teensy little poos bc they are absorbing/using all that food. I take a few days worth out at a time and store in tupperware in fridge.

I also take a couple days out at at time and store in the frig. My problem is she' s been picky for the last few days and I've had a problem trying to get her to eat it....

Tonight I was making chili for dinner and gave her some of the plain ground beef...I'll assure you she didn't have a problem eating that even with the Eicosaderm on it....lol....picky little spoiled girl....

When I bought the bags, I immediately divided the medallions into tiny zip lock bags when I got home (3.5 per bag ~ for Ariel's age, weight, & activity level, the NV website recommends 3.4 medallions a day). I then put all of bags into a larger zip lock bag and put it in the freezer.

Every night, I take out one of the prepared zip lock bags, place it in tupperware, and thaw it overnight in the fridge. When I feed her, I cut them up into pieces. She loves it!

Do you all have Nature's Variety retailers near you? Do any of you use mail order for this? Is it even possible to ship this food?

Before there was a place to buy it in College Station, I always bought it in the Dallas area. At that time I was going back and forth to Dallas a lot and would buy enough to last me. LUCKILY, at the time I stopped traveling to Dallas I found that a store here started carrying it. Otherwise I'd probably be going to Houston to get it. You can buy it online but I'm sure it's pretty expensive to ship it
