My furkids Donating Member | does anyone here............. mix brands of food for their furbabies? I feed the girls Canidae, wet and dry, I feel they are getting board eating the same thing day after day, I know I would! Yesterday I bought Merrick's, Grammy's Pot pie, dry. They LOVED IT!! I mixed the Canidae with the Merrick's and....they picked out all the Merricks! LOL! The little devils!! I did notice that Lillie's stool was a little softer this morning. I do realize that a change in diet will do this...Do you think it will firm up again once she is used to the new food? I am not planning on switching them over to Merricks I just wanted to mix the two to give them variety...What do you think?

| I mix my dry foods all the time and I have talk to others that do the same thing. I have found that if you switch or mix among similar high quality foods then the dogs have no problem handling it. Right now mine are on a mixture of Canidae Holistic Blend and Chicken Soup puppy. I alway add a little canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice to their food twice a day. It is recommended that you rotate the dog foods to keep them from developing allergies. Example: If they are on a chicken and rice food then after a few months switch to a lamb and rice, or duck and sweet potato. I highly recommend avoiding dog foods with corn and beef. |

| I mix dry foods as well. Although I always have one food which I feed the largest amount, and just add a few nuggets of another for variety and taste. When I introduce a new food, I start off with just a few nuggets at a time. Mine seem to react to new foods so I go easy. Right now I'm using Timberwolf Organics (Southwest Chicken & Herb), and I mix in a few Canidae and Merrick's in with it. Timberwolf is the first food I've found that they really eat with enthusiasm, so I'm sticking with it.

| I know what you mean... Meka seems to be getting pickier and hasnt been quick to eat her food. Especially when Im cooking dinner. Its like she's smelling what we're about to eat, and wants nothing to do with her kibble. Thats a good idea mixing it up a little... I'll have to try that

| I strongly suggest completely switching. Doing what you are doing is fine but switching is better for their bodies. I had Ellie on the same food for 3 years. Then we went to homecooked and then back to a different kind of kibble. Well, she was allergic to it. It is the corn. Now that garbage food she was on for 3 years had corn in it and she did fine, so the allergy was mostly likely acquired. It is best to switch them up so their bodies don't start reacted when they are overfed one particular ingredient.

My furkids Donating Member | Thanks everyone for responding. I don't want to switch their food I just want to add variety. Canidae and Merricks are both 5 star foods and don't have all good ingredients in them. Merricks does have a tiny bit more protien in it then Canidae but, I don't think that will be a problem. I also give them a small amount of wet Canidae mixed with the dry. I have tried using Merricks wet but, the gravy makes their beards really discusting and gives them very lose stools. Thanks again everyone! Brenda
