| Stoll help, please Ok, so here is the thing. We have an 18 week old baby girl and I home cook for her. Her stools have never been solid, they are not runny either but are kind of pudding contexture if you smash them a little, they do have their normal form and mold in circle one over the other (sorry to be so graphic but I want you to get the idea). Its is definitely not diarrhea and there is no mucus or anything strange in it, but they are just not firm. She is in great health, she was tested for worms (including coccidia and giardia)and results came neg. The vet says she is fine and that it is normal cause she is a puppy and she also has the bad habit of picking up everything on her way, we are very careful but yet she is all day liking the floor, walls, her sisters (our cocker) paws, and what ever she sees. Her diet now is yogurt with cheese for breakfast, meat with smashed potatoes and carrot. I used to give her chicken for dinner but now I am sticking with plain beef cause I was afraid it could be the chicken upsetting her tummy. Besides the loose stool she is fine, she is a very happy girl and is full with energy as a normal yorkie baby. So, I already went to two different vets (there are only 5 in the little island where I live) and they both think its normal and that I am overreacting, but that is what doctors always say right? I guess they all become a bit insensitive over the time… Also, down here we are centuries behind, so they also agree it could be the “peoples food” I am giving to her, their advice has been to go back to kibble and buy some premium brand like royal canine or eukanuba (I know, its terrible)… Miel (the cocker) is free feed with wellness and canidae (I switch them) so Pulga (yorkie) eats like 10 pieces a day that she steels from her sisters bowl. Just for the record none of these brands are sold here, I have to buy them on the internet and get them shipped here, I’ve thought about getting one for pulga but I enjoy the homecooking and I felt it was the best for her. I love to pamper her and I want her to be as healthy as is can get. Raw is not an option cause food here doesn’t have a good quality control so I wont take chances with bacteria, besides I think I am feeding her pretty healthy, aint I? I was thinking on adding some scrambled eggs, other kinds of meat, etc. but I am afraid I could make it worse… So, basically what I wanted to know is if any of you are experiencing (or have experienced) something similar, is it normal? Is there something I can do? Any advice? Sorry for the long post, I will really appreciate any input cause I am going mad here. Thanks in advance!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It's not normal - as your gut tells you - so I'm glad you're continuing to go w/ your gut and find an answer. And, YEP, I have experience with this issue, just a different cause probably. You are supplementing w/ calcium, right? Bc that's a must when homecooking. Also, there aren't any suspected liver concerns etc.? I will give you the advice that I was given after $100s at the vet; I finally consulted an animal nutritionist after months of mush/mucous/bloody stools. The system must rest and the best diet (meaning, most hypoallergenic) is whitefish (tilapia, cod, sole etc), mashed white potatoes, steamed/pureed green beans. That's it. Nothing else in terms of food until she settles. You could supp. w/ calcium, digestive enzymes, and probiotics - but NO oils. You could also give pinch of Benefiber. This isn't a long term diet bc she'll need variety and fat - but this will let her system rest and heal while resting. Then, you start adding things in SLOWly. If you want to contact the nutritionist I used, let me know. She cost me $75 for 1 hour on the phone - and it was the best $ I ever spent on Marcel.

| Thank you so much, I was really going crazy. Yes she was tested from liver (they did a whole panel) and kidney problems and they all came out fine, I felt really bad cause I had to insist with my vet to get the exams done, he said that taking the blood sample was going to stress her out cause it had to be taken from the jugular and that it would hurt… I was lost, the last thing I want is to hurt her, so I went to another vet and he took the sample in 2 seconds, he also did stool and pee samples, everything was perfect. I could sleep again at night! I still wanted to do some x-rays to rule out any other problems, but I decided to wait, maybe I was being paranoid. I am giving her the egg shell supplement (I prepare it as I read here) I also got the missing link for her but its still on its way here. I would love to consult your nutritionist, is it possible by mail? The price seems very fair but my English (as you can see) is not the best, I am afraid I could miss some important info by phone… I will buy the white fish today, I really hope she likes it, she was a picky eater when she arrived but now she would eat me if she could lol, for example now she is obsessed with paper, she will eat books, newspaper, toilet paper, any paper! And she actually swallows it! Ggggrrrrrr, she makes me so angry running after her to take it out of her mouth, and when I finally catch her she just swallows it and gives me the triumphant look! ahhhhhhhh she is wiser than I sometimes ha,ha,ha She also bites some of our wood furniture, I am always scared she will get a splinter stuck on her throat…I am watching her all day Thanks a lot for your advice, ill start the new diet tomorrow. Please let me know about the nutritionist

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think your English is just great! Her name is Susan - and here is her website. I really think she'll want to talk to you over the phone bc she'll have a lot of questions: http://www.askariel.com/ She is really wonderful! Tell her hi from Marcel!

| You may want to try keeping the pup in an X-pen in the house so that you can supervise her better. It will save your furniture as well as protect her from eating anything harmful. I feed Remi 1/4 cup of Eagle Pack holistic food, 1 approx. tablespoon of chicken or cooked meat and 1 teaspon of yogurt. For a treat he loves carrots and broccoli. He has been on this diet since we brought him home. He is now 17 months old and extremely healthy. Lots of good luck to you. |

| Thanks Wylie's Mom, i will get in touch with her and of course i will send kisses from Marcel! lopresm, she has a pen but as our cocker runs free its very difficult to keep her there when at home, she cries all the time, and then Miel (cocker) goes to see whats happening and tries to jump in ha,ha,ha. She is never alone at home, i am all day here and i take her with me when ever i go out. We just bought plenty of new nice interactive toys so i hope they will keep them busy.. Regarding the diet i will try the fish for a while, i am glad your baby is healthy, Pulga doesnt like carrots nor brocoli alone, but she eats them well smashed with the sweet potato and beef or chicken.

| Sounds like you have everything under control. Having a Yorkie is certainly having a handful! But Remi has brought us so much joy as we watch him growing and learning. I have fround that the training class we attend each Wednesday evening is a great help. I have had dogs for over forty years and each one has been different. Obedience class and dog show training have always been a hobby of ours so we are continuing this with our Remi. Please let me know a little bit about where you live. It sounds so inviting! Regards to you and your babies, marilyn |
