| How do I get Logan to drink more water. If some of you followed my other thread you know that Logan's been having tummy trouble since the sunday before christmas. He was very sick on sunday the 21st, but he came out of it & we went back to his normal routine. Then friday morning he was gasie & wouldn't eat so we ran him to multiple vets who put him on a special diet & antibiotics. He's back on his regular food now, but he hasn't pooped for 24 hours. He doesn't seem to be drinking the amount of water he used to. When we took him to the vet on friday he was dehydrated & I don't want it to happen again. Any suggestions short of forcing him to drink. We plan to go purchase some canned pumpkin & plain yogurt today to help his bowls get moving, but the water is what is really concerning me.

| Well, there is water in pumpkin, yogurt, even canned dog food. If you are worried about dehydration I would think these things would help as well. I'm sure others will have more advice. Just had another thought! What about ice cubes??? All of my furbutts LOVE ice cubes.

He does however like to get in the shower with me & bite the water. I may have to take a shower with him tonight & see if he'll do that.

| Could you give him canned food or homecooked. Ellie eats homecooked and it is so full of moisture that she rarely needs to drink.

| Is it possible that since he's been on cottage cheese & rice the past 3 days that he doesn't need to drink as much because of the moisture in that?

Of course this is just a rough estimate and every dog is different. Did you understand a word of that.

| I don't know how much help this will be, we have a petfresh fountin for Addison and she gobbles up water like it's going out of style. Before we had it she would only drink out of her bowl after she ate or when I was with her in the area where we keep her food and water. A vet tech that we ADORE recomended a fountian and it worked like a charm for us! The water tends to stay cool because of circulation and it is super quiet. I just have to remember to fill it once a day because we got the small one, there are several different sizes. And there is a little charcoal filter for optimal freshness. Or just use bottled water like us so you dont have to replace the filter. Good luck!

| Does he eat dry food? If so, then at each meal you should add equal parts water to the food to ensure that he's getting enough moisture in his diet. If he's eating canned food, that's very helpful because it is very high in moisture.

| Yes, He eats dry food, but usually he drinks enough water on his own to combat it, he's always drinking water, but he slowed down lately; I don't know if it's due to his recent stomach upset or the cold weather.

| I put water on Shelby's food when I want her to drink more water. A little on her cottage cheese, a little on her dry food, a little on her vegetables (treat). |

| Punkin had tummy woes from eating Cat Food on Christmas day, after getting a shot at the vet and some pills she didn't poop for 36 hours. She is now all back to normal. I too was worried about water intake. To bump her water intake I put a few drops of chicken broth in 2 - 3 tablespoons of water every couple of hours and she drank it up like a champ. Otherwise I couldn't get her to drink extra water. |

| When pulga is not drinking enough I mix a couple of chicken broth teaspoons in the water and she could drink the whole bowl if I don’t stop her…

| When I first got Benjamin, they told me to put a little Gatorade in his water (Red Or Orange) So he wouldn't dehydrate or get hypoglycemia.. Maybe the sweetness will attract Logan. |
