| Ears smelly, is it an ear infection? Harley's ears are smelly, like a mildew smell and its stronger smelling after I give him a bath. I've tried cleaning out his ears with a little peroxide and some cotton balls, he did have some wax build up but it still smells. He also rubs his face and ears around the sofas and sometimes rolls on the floor. His vet appt. is on Wednesday, if it's an ear infection which would be easier an oral medication or drops for the ears?

| My Peanut just got over an ear infection and Yep that is exactly what is sounds like. If it stinks there is usually an infection. They are most likely going to give you an otic ointment that you put in her ears twice a day for ten days. It worked for Peanut and her ears are great. The vet also gave us a wet solution that we put in her ears once a week after a bath to prevent ear infections.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | We just treated Wylie for an ear infection - his were very smelly/itchy. I asked the vet if she thought it was yeast or bacteria or what? My vet suggested we use a wide-spectrum ear drop/ointment that would treat for all of it - so we covered all the bases. Worked great.

| We went to the vet this morning, turns out its not an ear infection. Anyway she prescribed a home remedy of vinegar and water for cleaning out his ears once a week. His ears aren't that smelly now, must just be after a bath that makes them smelly.

| Yorkies ears literally smell awful if they have an infection!! They do smell quite waxy the rest of the time but that is normal. If you clean them it can make the infection worse and hence the smell can increase-the vet will give you drops or ointment and this will sort it out easily. My yorkie always swims along the floor and rubs her head along the sofa/bed-its just a way of putting her scent on things so I would not be too concerned about this. |

| Gizmo is recovering from an ear infection and his did not smell. They were just really red and he kept whining and scratching them. So, you never know with these little guys. It's always better to be safe than sorry! I'm glad you took him.
