I just bacame a proud owner of a Yorkie, I love my Lil Man so much, his name si CoCo, I didnt think That little thing could bring so much joy into my life, but he has it gives me something to look forward to come home to....And my fiance loves him too... Well yesterday night my poor thing started to cough as if he had a hairball stuck in his troath and then he was spitting out some clear mucus or something like that... the poor thing i was so worried, b/c i dont know what i was, well my fiancee spended most of the night up with him taking care of him, making sure he was ok and taking care of him, when i woke up this morning to get ready for work my fiancee and my Coco were both sleeping on the couch and coco was laying on his chest, i wish i had my camera with me at that moment b/c it was priceless picture....Well i had my fiancee rushed coco to the vet this morning the vet calle me back just to let me know that Coco has collapsed trachea??? What the Heck is that????? Yes i have tried to reseach that but why does it happen and now what? does he need surgery? No idea.... All i know is that i dont want anything happening to my baby....
WISH ME LUCK....

Its very common in yorkies because of their delicate little throats. Try doing a search, I know there is a lot of threads about it here.

In a nutshell, I believe it can develop from either inheriting it genetically, or from damage occuring from being walked on collars, etc. It is pretty straightforward, the trachea collapses, making it difficult to breath and causing the hacking that you noticed.

Talk to your vet about the possibilities of surgery, I think it depends on the severity of the case. You might also consider a second opinion on this option, as I believe vet opinion can vary on this issue.

You should be able to find a lot of information, and many people have experience with this here on yorkietalk. They will offer excellent advice.

I hope your little man feel better soon, I do agree in a second opinion just for a peace of mind. Your bf is such a nice guy for caring for him

Confused Got over the Collapsed now dealing with Acid Reflux

So he is fine about the Collapesed Traquea part of it, we have learned to dealt with it, instead of a collar i got him a harnes wich works perfect(reminds me i have to buy a new one b/c last weekend he chew it and broke it, those baby teeth are very sharp he also took a love bite at my mom and made her bleed now she is scared of him... its kind of funny) now we are dealing with acid reflux, I'm giving him some pepcid ac and it seems to help and i think found the source of the problem and it sucks for him the DINGO BONES it looks like when i give him one its when he starts feeling bad and its always in the middle of the night, Im sorry for him but now no more Dingo Bone treats...
Besides that he is doing great we will be starting puppy classes in a couple of weeks since the chewing is getting out of hand... i have to keep my shoes off his reach....I got him a shirt this weekend that says Wanna Be Doberman and one that says Tiny Dog HUGE Attitude....he loves wearing those things.

Try the Everlasting Treat Ball, the smallest you can get. You can get refills for it in different flavors. That has helped us with the chewing problem. They chew as a stress and energy release. I also found dried fish skins from Iceland online that are great chews. This is what they give dogs in Iceland. They are thin and tough so they don't tear apart and they give your dog some omega fatty acids from chewing on them.

Did you get a one year health gurantee with your puppy? if so, i would think the breeder would have to take care of it.
