| Help Please, Buddy seems to have gone mad. Buddy is our fist yorkie, and everything was going fine until he had his second distemper which he had a reaction to. That was two weeks ago, and he now seems out of control at 14 weeks. Is that normal at this age, or is there something else going on? I have read a lot about the negatives of vaccinations but I am not quite sure what to think. To top things off he started eating his own poo today, YUCK!! He normally eats Eukanuba, but I am wondering if it is because of the treats he has been getting lately for being a good boy in the litter box. He has been getting Nutro natural dog treats (carrot, apple and blueberry) I assumed an occasional one would not be a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| First of all, welcome to YT!! What do you mean by "going crazy"? Regarding the eating of the poop....there are lots of members on here who have lots of experience with this. If you search around you will find some helpful advise or perhaps others will post of this thread some advise for you. As far as the Eukanuba...I can tell you that it rated one of the worst foods for our dogs. (I did not know this until I joined YT) There is a website that rates dog foods...I have seen it posted several times on YT. I will find it for you and post on this thread. Best of luck to you!!! You have came to a great place for help!!!

| Thanks for the information, the food analysis site has some amazing info, I will definately look into some of those other brands. I am thinking his sudden bad behavior is either from all the holiday excitement, or he is just getting to darn spoiled already. |

| If you describe the behavior, maybe we can help explain it? Welcome to YorkieTalk!

| Well where do I start--he has started to eat his stools (this just started in the last 24 hours). His hyperactivity has increased, he can't seem to sit still or sleep much. We have had brittney spaniels for 10 years who are hyper activite, they are a dog you either love or hate. But buddy is like a kid on a 12pack of mountain dew the last couple of days. Barking is now a big fascination for him instead of just doing it when he wants something. The chewing I can deal with because I know he will be getting his big boy teeth soon. I am just not sure if the puppy stages go by sooner because he is such a small dog, or we have honestly asked each other if there is anything he could have gotten into to make his behavior change so rapidly. I have noticed on the site that most people recommend they stay with their mom until 10-12 weeks but Buddy is 14 weeks and we have had him since he was about 8 weeks. Due to the rapid change of behavior we have eliminated the treats he was getting for using the litterbox like a good boy, thinking it might be something in there. |

I don't think treats would cause crazy behavior. I don't know what it can be but it sounds pretty normal for a puppy. Usually they sleep quite a bit though. Welcome to YT.

| I can't help with the poop eating, but I'm sure some of the others here will. The hyperactivity and barking though. We use the penny can for barking and it works. We also try to wear Gizmo out with lots of play and frequent walks and that seems to help too. Yorkies also have "episodes" where they run everywhere really fast...around and around. Lots of people refer to those episodes as the "zoomies". I've heard them described as looking like "a rabbit on crack". If that's the behavior you're describing, it's very normal. Once again, welcome!

| Well last night Buddy vomited all over before we went to bed. He seems to be doing much better this morning (back to being cuddly)than he has the last couple of days, he also seems to be leaving his stools alone again. I am wondering if over the holidays the kids were careless and he had a bit of people food that got him wound up. Hopefully the normal puppy behavior will be all there is to deal with today. |

| throwing up This is our first Yorkie, too. A couple of weeks ago, he thew up about 5 times in one hour. I took him to the Pet ER (of course it was after vet hours . They gave him fluids and a shot to stop the nausea. I'm not sure if he had swallowed some of the cotton from tearing up his puppy pads or not, but we switched to newspaper. Today, ours was a little crazy, too. Tonight, I have attributed it to my husband playing too rough and aggravating him to the point that he made him angry. I had to put him in his area for about 15 minutes to calm down before I got him out again. The husband has hopefully realized now not to do that again!!! Let's hope during the festivities, someone didn't give Buddy any chocolate! You never know how kids like to give them things. I hope he is feeling better! |

Judy, I just had to quote you!! You called them episodes? zoomies?? a rabbit on crack?? I am laughing my butt off!! Our Maltese, Skiddles, started this crazy behaviour and hubby called it his "nut run"!! First time, he said "look at that little nut run!!" After our Maltese, we got Ginger and she did the same thing! Then we got ShyAnne and sure enough, she does it too!! We don't have Skiddles anymore but it is so darn comical to watch my 2 yorkie babies running like crazy, around and around pieces of furniture, down the hall and back again!! Leaping over top of each other!! It is tiring just to watch them!! Zoomies is a perfect word for this fun behaviour of theirs!!
