| My dog has been licking his anal area non-stop and it does not look good Hi. I'm new here and I'm worried about my little Rocco. He's been licking his anal area non-stop the past week and when I took a look, it does not look good. It's red and really weird looking as well as having little white bumps and is very moist. Does anyone here have any idea what the problem may be. I'm not sure if I should take him to the vet for this. Thanks! |

| It could be worms. In any case, I would definately take him to the vet.

| First of all - Welcome to YorkieTalk! It sounds like a trip to the vet would be a good idea. |

| Dogs can get impacted or infected anal sacs and they can even rupture. He needs to be seen by your vet. Unfortunately, it will be pretty difficult to find a vet on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. I'd plan to take him in right after Christmas unless he seems to be in pain or starts bleeding. Then you'll have to find an emergency vet. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_anal_sacs.html |

Edie had this problem once, and it looked very painful. Please don't drag out the discomfort. Go to your vet soon. | |

| I agree with the other. He may need to have his anal sacs expressed. Take him to the vet. |

| It sounds like the anal area has become infected. Could be due to sitting down on something sharp, or he's eaten something he shouldn't and it got stuck before coming all the way out. He really does need to be seen by a Vet. Wishing your boy a speedy recovery for sure! |
