| Stinky Yorkies? My Daughter n law lives in another state so I hadn't seen her since I got my Furgie...anyways when I told her she said Oh let me tell you about Yorkies... She said they stink, have bumps and are destructive little things. This is my first and No I haven't been around this breed so I don't know...I do know she had some bumps that went away when I changed her diet. Her ears do smell musty but finally I done an ear wash and that musty smell is gone....I just bath her and she smells fine. Also I don't let her outside....so that should help with doggie odor. I use Bitter Apple on things I saw her chewing on....she no longer bothers the corner of cabinets...or whatever...but geesh she is just 13 weeks now. So you long time Yorkie owners is this true? partly true? |

| As long as you keep them bathed regularly, Yorkies do NOT stink. Lacy has never had a "dog" smell EVER...when she is dirty, she smells like oily hair which isn't really that bad. I don't think yorkies get stinky like bigger dogs with double coats. I've also never heard of yorkies having bumps...unless they develop tumors. I know schnauzers are prone to getting those little spongy bumps but not yorkies. And destructiveness - ALL dogs can be destructive if you don't train them

| Any dog will get stinky if they need a bath (humans will too for that matter ) but I grew up around many different breeds of dogs and it's been my experience that yorkies have less of a tendency to smell than other breeds.

| Neither of mine are stinky, have bumps or any bad habits. Well except trying to eat my Boxer. I think they are very loving babies, and wouldn't trade mine for anything.

| My Pups start to have 'The Dog Smell' around two weeks after a bath. I started using these dog wipe type thingeys if I'm too busy to bath them and it buys me a few extra days. You can see our video review of what I'm talking about at www.dogblogtv.com (2nd review down). |

| The only stink Precious ever has The only stink Precious ever has had was musty, and that is because she was 8 weeks old before we gave her a actual bath. We did do the "puppy baby wipes" but that didnt cut it. Now of course we have given her baths and the musty smell is gone. And as far as the hyperness of the puppy, all puppys will tend to be hyper, not just Yorkies. Precious has got the energy of five full sized dogs, but she will grow out of that, as well as grow out of her "chewing" stage. good luck JIM

| I have two girls and as for being stinky I do not agree. They sleep with me every night & I bathe them every two weeks, they have no bumps and as for being destructive, not really just puppy stuff when they were younger. They do get hyper about 8 or 9 at night doing hotlaps around the house, it is their bedtime rital. Enjoy your puppy and give her a lot of love & attention and she will be fine.

| hehehe, I love my stinky Momiji smell!!! (I know I'm strange..) But I really don't think she is stinky, since she gets a bath every week. But I think yorkie's beard (I mean around nose area) get stinky since dog love to stick their nose on the grass or on peepad to sniff pee and poop.... And also food sticks to the hair around nose and mouth so it gets stinky. But I think it isn't only yorkie, any longer hair breed get to be the same, IMO. I wipe her face every morning but by the 7th day, she doesn't smell too good... But I still sniff her and tell her "You are stinky girl, but I still love you!!" |

| Hey y'all thanks. I don't smell anything strong myself. But my son just came by to pickup his daughter and asked "whats that smell Mama?" I asked what's it smell like...he said a vets office. hummmm? could it be the pee pads? Hubby thinks that the pads come with puppy urine already on them. Gees I had plan to keep her using pee pads forever and never let her outside...Maybe that is a mistake....I dunno. What do you all think? And as far as my daughter n law goes it could be jealousy....or she could have gotten a sick dog....I said bumps....but she said sensitive skin problems. OK if you all could help me....I would appreciate it!!! TIA Last edited by Rosey07; 12-07-2007 at 05:47 PM. |

I concur on the oily smell for Teddy. He never stinks. I groom him once a month, and if need be twice a month. But he smells so purty all the time, anyways!

| I agree with them smelling oily as well, and their faces get a little stinky. Mine get bathed once a week and they have never smelt like a dog. I have 2 labs and they smell like dogs even after a bath if they are wet they smell like a dog. I don't know what your son was smelling but I find it hard to believe that your little yorkie is stinking up your house. How often are you changing the pee pads? I use them and they only stink if they are left out to long.
