| Number of meals per day? I am wondering how often you feed your Yorkie? I have a 7 month old, who is 4 pounds. Her diet is 1/3 kibble, 2/3 home cooked food - we give her the home cooked food (mixture of ground lamb or turkey, rice, peas and carrots - mixed with yogurt or cottage cheese) twice a day. Once in the morning and once at dinner time. Her kibble is available at all times for her to eat. I am just wondering if she is eating enough. We have just switched to feeding twice a day from 3 times, she seems to be doing well but I want to know what other mommies are doing with their babies feeding schedule. Thanks! |

| All my dogs big and small have always had 3 meals a day. A small breakfast 6am and lunch noonish then a larger dinner late afternoon early evening. It's conveient to me to feed them 3 but I think they would be fine on 2 if that is more convenient to you. |

| My puppies are now on a two meal a day schedule. I don't leave anything down for them in between out of concern for their weight. They both eat whatever they can get their mouths on, so they would be piggies in no time! They each get 1/3 cup food in the morning and evening--this seems to work very well for them. I have a much older larger dog that has always eaten twice a day. When my puppies were smaller they ate up to four times a day. |

| Thanks for the replies. Brady has never been a big eater, especially when I was trying to give an all kibble diet. I can't imagine her ever getting to the point where she would be overweight! She gets some variety with the food I make her and I think that makes a big differece. |

| I can't leave food out...my female would eat herself to death. She LOVES to eat, so I feed her once a day. BUT she gets a small amount of treats. too. The puppy gets fed twice a day and he's as skinny as a rail, but won't eat more than that. They both are healthy and seem happy! |

| We free feed. The pups are not overweight. I have to watch that they eat enough food, because they are fed a lot of treats by my family. I try to buy the small, healthy treats. When they are not eating enough, I fuss at the guys to settle down a little with the treats.

| i was jsut reading a training book and they also agree that u should only feed a puppy of less than 12 weeks 3 times a day.. similar schedule to Julie1's... and when they are over just twice a day. Now i'm just wondering Julie, between the third meal in the late evening and in the morning.. is your puppy eating anything?? Last edited by Hazel; 07-06-2005 at 05:18 AM. |

| I give him baby carrots, green beans, string bean, apple (peeled and cut in bite size pieces), watermelon, peach. Stay away from raisin and grapes as they are toxic to them!!!
