| Feeding your pup... Nature's Variety recommends that I feed Tina 1/4 cup a day of food and Tbone 3/8 cup a day of food (by weight and energy level, and the fact that I only want to feed this dry kibble). I have been using their Instinct type food since it has no grains in it. But my question is, would it be alright to only feed them once a day? I've been overfeeding them by giving them about a half cup a day split up between two meals. But I don't want them to get sick because they are only eating once a day. Tbone used to throw up bile in the mornings when he hadn't eaten the night before, so our vet recommended feeding him later in the evening to prevent that. So, will they be ok if I just feed them in the evening? I know I have been over feeding them because they have been POOP MACHINES since we switched foods, but I can't imagine only giving Tina 1/8 cup of food twice a day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| It won't let me vote. I actually did this poll in the "polls" section about a week ago. Maybe that would help. I would never ever recommend feeding a dog once a day. Some people do it and that is their business. It is more understandable with bigger dogs. I just don't like the idea. Twenty-four hours is too long between meals.

| Oh, I should have said I feed three times a day. I would do twice but Ellie gets hungry midday and she gets homecooked and there is a lot of bulk to that which would be too much to feed in two meals.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Well, once a day is doable - but I personally think twice a day, minimum, is better. Getting fuel only once a day, I think, would be kind of hard physically and mentally (causing gulping too, possibly). I'm surprised they're such poopers on the NV - usually the higher quality you go, the less poo. Did they just switch recently?

| We just finished a 5 lb bag, went to buy a second today and looked online for feeding regulations. That's where I found the amounts they need to be eating. I just think 1/8 of a cup is such a small amount to give in 1 feeding twice a day.

| It is a small amount, but if she's a tiny dog then she has a tiny little stomach and 1/8cup will be a decent size meal for her. Sometimes I feel like giving Lacy 2 medallions of the raw is such a small amount for a meal (she gets 2 twice a day so 4 total), but she's at a healthy weight. At first I felt like I was feeding her such a small amount of food, but because it's so concentrated with nutrients, they need less at a time.
