Can Dogs Catch/Get A Cold? Crazy question, I know. My yorkies have never been ill or seemed to suffer any type of cold. Humans can pass colds to each other, but can dogs catch a cold from a human?

| It was a very time time ago, when I attended vet tech school, and I remember this question well. Dogs do not catch colds, their metabolism is different from humans. They can however have allergies.

Diego, They can catch a cold? From a human too or just another dog? I don't think I have ever seen a dog with a cold. I have heard one with kennel cough though.

That is very interesting. Too bad we couldn't do something to regulate the human metabolism so we couldn't catch a cold!

I think that dogs can catch Step. from people. Last year a friend of mine children kept getting strep infections. For a couple of months the kids kept getting strep. It turned out that their dog was the carrier of the strep. However, the vet told her that the dog prob. get step from one of the kids.
