| Please help! Something is wrong with Hootie! Hootie has not been acting like herself this week and this evening it seems to have gotten worse. For about the past week, she has been waking up in the mornings shaking and throwing up yellow foamy stuff. I've been kind of rubbing it off and just making her eat some food and giving her some NutriCal. Well, this morning she threw up 6-7 times and she has refused to eat or drink anything today. I've given her NutriCal several times and gave her some water through a syringe. She walks around and seems somewhat disoriented. She'll take a few steps and then try to sit or lay down but acts like it's uncomfortable. Also, I've seen her a couple of times take a few steps and then stop and stretch her back legs. She's sitting in my lap right now shaking and won't lay down. (As I was re-reading this, she finally laid down in my lap but she is CLEARLY not feeling well!) I made her eat 4-5 pieces of food about an hour ago and she's held it down so far but she refuses to eat anymore. Nothing in our routine has changed except a week ago I got a bag of baby carrots and have been giving the yorkies 1/4-1/2 a carrot each as a treat when they come in from outside. It totals to about 2 carrots each throughout the day. Also, I put some apple cider vinegar in their water Friday and yesterday. I didn't give Hootie any carrots yesterday or today and I haven't put any ACV in their water today. Hobbs is acting normally. What could be wrong with Hootie?????? Should I take her to the emergency vet 2nite or can I wait until morning? Should I continue the water through the syringe and NutriCal? I'm so worried about her. |

| Weird... I would have just said that the yellow bile is from her getting too hungry and she needs to be fed right before bed. Since she acts disorientated, it is a big problem and she needs to see a vet. If you pull on her legs and touch her back and she isn't in pain I would wonder about liver shunt. Something is definately not right.

| The liver usually has to be 70% damaged for the ALT to be elevated on a routine blood test. A bile acid test would have to be done. I don't want to scare you though. It may not be that but the disorientation is strange. She never presses her head into heard objects, walks in circles, shakes AFTER meals, has UTIs, is a picky eater..., right? By the way, those symptoms don't have to be present. They do occur quite a bit though.

| Well, that is good. If the vet can't figure out what is wrong I would have her tested then. Actually, I think all Yorkies should be tested anyway...

| UPDATE: Hootie is voluntarily eating a little bit of food out of her bowl! She only at 4-5 pieces, but that's definitely better than nothing! Now cross your fingers that she keeps it down! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would stop the apple cider vinegar and carrots for awhile and see if one of those was causing a stomach discomfort. Glad she is feeling a bit better now.

| thanks, Patti! I'll definitely do that. Hopefully it was the carrots and she'll feel better in a day or two when they clear out of her system. |

| Have you called her vet? I don't know much about Yorkie health -- but it seems that any time your dog throws up 6-7 times in a day she needs to see the vet. Archie once threw up five times in the car (on the way to the vet because he had been throwing up at home, too) and it turned out to be a serious case of pacreatitis. Please call your vet if you haven't already. Good luck!

| UPDATE: Hootie seems to be acting normally today. She ate a tiny bit last night and drank some water. I gave her some NutriCal before bed. When I woke up at 6:30am to take all the dogs out, I gave her some NutriCal when she came back in. She hasn't vomited today. I honestly think that she doesn't eat enough and her body motabolizes food very quickly and that was making her vomit and yellow foam and shake from low blood sugar. I received my shipment of Orijen in the mail today and put a bowl of it out for the yorkies and they ate it up! They are both so full right now! Hopefully Hootie will enjoy this new food and will eat more. I'm also getting some treats to keep by my bed and I'll give her one in the mornings when she is done pottying. Hopefully all these things will help! Thanks everyone for your prayers and well wishes! They definitely paid off!!!!! |

| jUst came on and found your messages. How is Hootie now? I hope all is well, what a worry it must have been for you. Maybe she can't handle raw carrots, but is o.k. if they're cooked? Or maybe she's allergic to them? Or it could have been something entirely unrelated for all we know. Sure wish they could talk sometimes. |

| Ahh poor Hootie!!! I just saw this thread. Glad she's feeling better Rebecca. It's so scary. I would definitely cut the vinegar out. Why the vinegar in the water? It seems like that would be too hard on their system. My stomach has issues everytime I have vinegar and I am far larger than a yorkie. So I would discontinue that. Every dog has a different system so just because Hobbs isn't reacting to it doesn't mean it's not bothering his system, does that make sense? Some just don't have symptoms or external reactions but it may be doing damage internally. Aynway, sounds like they are both doing well. Call me if you want to chat or get worried.

| Many people have stated that their animals became ill when they tried to add vinegar to their water for nutrients/holistic purposes. I found reviews online. Just FYI...
