| People food VS. Dog Food So I was just looking at the post in the Off-Topic Discussion forum about the new YT cookbook coming out in December. My question is I feed Oliver just regular solid dog food, simply because I dont have much time being a full time student and working part time to make him food (and im not really sure how to, or what to feed him if I was even to start). Anyways, I would love to buy one of those books and learn how to make food for Oliver. However, my only concern is that can you feed a dog regular solid food one day and then treat him to some home made food the next day? or does that cause health problems and diaherra? (not sure if i spelt that right, sorry) |

| if you are feeding a quality food (ie.. Wellness, Solid Gold...) it shoudn't be a problem at all. When we started Layla would get both kibble and people food and she had no problem. If you need help with homecooking feel free to Pm me , i'd be happy to help It can be really easy. I am also a full time student and i cook once a month, and freeze the food. |

| I homecook for mine, and I absolutely love doing it! I cook once every two weeks and freeze it. I first started homecooking for Jake, and I can tell you that he got much more enthusiastic about eating after that. I'm cooking for Jackson now too, and he loves it! I still leave their kibble down for grazing, and we have had no problems.

| I heard about Wellness and I feed him Wellness treats right now, for dog food he eats Iams toy breed dog food or something like that (thats what the person i got him from told me to feed him). He eats the wellness treats but sometimes he wont and i am afraid that if i start him on wellness food that he wont like it or something. |

| oh PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop feeding him Iams... not a good food.... go here http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ and look at the 4,5 and 6 star foods. That is what he should be eating if you are going to home cook. When you start... he will probably have diarrhea,... which is normal.. his body is cleaning out the crappy food and kinda just cleansing itself. |

| As far as hurting them by changing from solid dog food to homecooked, it depends in my opinion...Back when I was first homecooking, I would sometimes alternate and Miko would do fine with that....BUT after homecooking for him for a couple of months straight with no dog food whatsoever, I gave him the dry food he used to eat before homecooking for one meal, and he ended up having bloody stools. It was not a pretty picture.

In addition, the "ratings" on that site don't really amount to much...they are the personal opinions of the people who run the site. It's no more valuable than your opinion or mine. Bottom line is, no dog food is made of a quality food that any of us would ever think about eating. Even the 'highest' quality ingredients are still very poor. | |
