| A little confused.. Hi everyone! I have been reading all the comments about what everyone feeds their dog. I am thinking that I am going to feed her chicken and veggies. Can anyone give me any advice on how much chicken/veggies to make for her and how often i should be feeding her? Daisy is 9 months old and as of last week she decided that she didn't want to eat her Eukanuba puppy food anymore. As for the chicken..do I buy a whole chicken and cook it? Also what kind of veggies would you recommend? Sorry if these are crazy questions but I a new dog owner and just started cooking...yikes poor daisy haha Also I read something about also giving her supplements. What are some recomendations and how often do you give them to her? Do you get them at Petco? Thanks for your imput...I want to give the best for my Daisy! |

| I cook for Taylor. 1 lb of lean ground beef, 1 lb of ground turkey, 32 oz of chicken broth or stock, 3 cups of millet (soaked before adding) 5 cups of water, carrots minced, celery minced, zucchini minced. The veggies should amount totally to 2 cups. Brown meat in olive oil....add broth, water and millet, let simmer then add veggies. I freeze this in containers after it cools and give Taylor 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at dinnertime. In the morning I put one "Super VitaChew" in his food. I used to cut it in half but found that he eats it like a treat...so no need to cut the vitamin. I purchase those from www.1800petmeds.com My vet approved this recipe and Taylor has done great on it. | Here is Ellie's new recipe: 1 oz. white meat chicken 1/3 cup (or about 88 grams) carb (rice or sweet potato or peas...) 1/2 cup (or about 60 grams) veggies (squash, green beans, carrots...) 1 tsp. oil (for fat). I use canola. Supplements You just cook it all and mix it. It is about 24% protein on a dry matter basis. You could definately go a bit higher in protein then that but Ellie has some health issues to consider... I will either use a whole chicken and take off the white meat or boneless, skinless chicken breast. All skin and visable fat is removed. The supplement I use is a bit harder to get than others. You have to order through your vet or a nutritionist, so it is probably best to look for other kinds. Calcium supplementation in particular is very important. Some foods you never want to give are: Chocolate Onions Garlic (in large amounts) Grapes Raisins Macedamia Nuts Foods high in fat or salt

| Thank you so much for your imput. I tried the chicken with some carrotts and white rice. I am going to start giving her some green beans today also. I wanted to make sure that the chicken and rice agreed with her stomach. I am not sure how much I should be feeding her though. She is 9 months and weighs about 6 pounds...any suggestions with that? Thanks! |
