Default does anyone's yorkie throw up regularily?

about once every 2 or 3 days Dexter will thow up. its not a lot and he doesnt act sick or in pain and will continue to play afterwards so im a little confused. I took him to the vet and let her know, but she didnt seem worried, but didnt give an explanation for it either, just said he was pefectly healthy. he's like a litle vaccuum and im assuming he just takes in a little too much dust, throws it up and continues on his way. i just wanted to see if any one else has experienced this? I'm vary warry of vets and am wondering if i should get a second opinion. im aware that they have different digestion than most dogs so just wanted to see if this is normal. am i worrying about nothing?? he acts very happy and healthy otherwise!

I have only had my yorkie for a few months now and sometimes he seems to do that. I also have a Boxer who seems to do it a lot more (a few times a month). Sometimes I think that they do it when there stomach is empty or if they are very excited. My Boxer use to do it in the mornings before he would eat. I usually do not feed my dogs until every human in the house has ate ( I am one of those pack leader dog person). What I do now is give them some liver treats packed into their bones while we eat and them feed them. I think that in my case my Boxer had an empty stomach. I feed my yorkie 3 meals a day and my boxer 3 small meals a day. I also think that sometimes fear, excitement, empty stomach, or pain can make them vomit. So you just have to look at your dog and try to see what he is doing before he vomits. Good Luck.

It is not normal and I would not listen to that vet (unless of course the dog has an empty stomach). I can tell you that Ellie used to throw up every week or two for no reason and she was free fed, so she could eat whenever. I thought I was gving her a good food (Science Diet) but then we switched to Canidae and then homecookiing and she has only thrown up about three times in eight months and there is always a reason (doesn't feel good, car sick).

It could be his food. I was feeding Nutro Lamb & Rice kibble and Basil would throw up every couple of days--it was yellow and foamy. I switched him to California Naturals Small Bites a couple of months ago and I don't remember the last time that he was sick!

Baby Bear does this after she eats or drinks water. Not all the time but every couple days. It's more like white foamy saliva.

Usually it means she needs her anal glands cleaned out. Some dogs are more prone to need anals cleaned more then others.

thanks for all the feedback! i never would have assosiated it with anal glands and i will look into that. he is eating Royal Canin puppy right now and i feed him twice a day but he never eats it all and most of the time he will have access to the food all day long so i dont think its an empty stomach. most of the time he will trow up a bit of white foam, but sometimes nothing even comes up. im going to keep a log of it to see if i can see any patterns.

i had a pup with pancrease problems goiwing up and i mentioned that to the vet too, but she said that even though yorkies are prone to those problems, she didnt think that was it. he never shows any pain and i know my pup growing up always was streaching and in pain when her pancrease would act up.

he hasent vomited in 2 days so i am going to keep an eye on him and if he does it again im going to take him to get a second opinion. i have yet to find a really good vet in toronto that i trust with my babies 100%

You really have to watch your dog when they throw up regularly, talk to your vet and try to figure out why. My puppy used to throw up from time to time too, not a lot but maybe 3-4 times a month when he was a few months old. If I feed him late, he will throw up bile from hunger. If he jumps too much and is too excited in the morning, he will also throw up and he throws up in the car if the ride is more than 30 sometimes 40 minutes. He is a barfy boy as my hubby calls him especially in the car lol. Now that he is almost one and a half years old, he is not barfing as much anymore, actually can't even remember when was the last time . I make sure I give him some snack before tucking him in for the night so that he is not too hungry in the morning.

Edited to add: You know your dog best so I am sure you'll be able to figure it out

Default water

My mom's maltese did that until she started using a water bottle instead of a bowl.

Mine use to until I started giving her a teaspoon of cottage cheese before she goes to bed.

Thumbs up

i just realized that i never posted a follow up to this thread. Since i posted this, Dexter has not vomited at all! i did take him to another vet which i liked less than the first one but she also said that i should have nothing to worry about. i was all set to log when, where, why he was vomiting but thankfully he stopped! thanks to everyone for their input and ideas!

Lillie only throws up if she has been in the car too long. 15 minutes is her max.
