| Food question? Autumn is currently eating Innova, I am going to be switching her to Canidae ALS since we will be getting the new puppy. (I figured they can both eat the Canidae instead of having to buy two different foods) My question is (once the puppy is over 6 months and can eat the Innova)can I give them Canidae and then switch back to Innova and then back and forth. I am just thinking that it would be better to switch up the food instead of constantly eating the same bag of food all the time! What are your thoughts and opinions! Thanks for your help!

| As long as you do it slowly I think you'll be ok.

| I was just thinking about this too. At what age can a puppy start eating Innova?

| Changing foods My puppies(2 Mini Schnauzers) started out with the food the breeder had then on.>Puppy Chow??? I switched them to Canidae over about 3 weeks. They did pretty well. It is common to switch foods for them(variety and different protein base) every so often. Some people do it by number of bags of food or twice a year. They are now on Orijen 6 Fresh Fish, it smells like fish, but they love it. After the Orijen I will use some Innova. I will continue to switch between these 3 as they are all high quality dog foods, but they are very different. Some dogs respond to a slow change and others you can half and half it for a couple of days and then switch, it depends on the stomach of the dog. They also sometimes have issues with a certain food so its better to buy small bags at first and try it on them. As to your question there are different opinions on whether to feed a super high protein food to a puppy. Some say around 20 to 25% protein for a puppy and the higher protein food when they are older. I e-mailed Orijen about the fresh fish and they said it would be fine for my 6 month old dogs.It is 44 % protein. The Canidae is 26% protein. Both are fine foods, Innova as well. As long as your dogs are healthy with no allergies you should be fine with a switch. David |
