| sleeping a lot after grooming My husband took our baby yesterday to Petsmart to get groomed at about 9:30. He wasn't ready till 2:30. He was happy to see us when we picked him up, but soon after he came home, he slept and slept and slept. He didn't even want to eat. When I woke up this morning at 4:30, he was full of energy like nothing had happened. Is this normal? Should I look for a private grooming salon? Was he stressed? |

| How old is he? The first groomings can be a little stressful, naturally. But I will share my story. We took Reggie (10 years old) to a recommended groomer as a puppy. She seemed okay. But he had to stay there a really long time like yours did. Each time we'd pick him up, he'd be withdrawn and lethargic until the next day. Then one time, I had to take him to a different groomer because of a timing conflict. He came home completely normal. I took him to that new place a second time. They asked how he had done. I told them the difference. They asked where he'd gone before and asked me very politely (without saying anything negative) to continue to bring him to them. Have ever since. These wonderful ladies have since opened their own holistic groomers shop, and Reggie has come home FINE ever since. They only allow the dog to stay for the time of their appointment - no waiting in kennels. (He still hates to go, but it doesn't change his personality). Coby got a much better start there and loves them. Then just this week, that original groomer has been arrested for throwing antifreeze-laced meat over the fence at one or two of her competitors, where dogs ate it. I don't know if she is guilty - I only know she did not care for my dog the way my current groomers do and created a groomer phobia that his new groomer has lovingly dealt with for 10 years. The vet and groomer are your dogs caregivers outside of your house. Please don't take groomers lightly and choose very carefully..............

| Kobe is 7 months old. This is not his first cut. He seems to always come home and be exactly how you've described it, lethargic and withdrawn. I will look into another groomer. Thank you so much |

| Iam glad he is back to normal the first time i took karleigh she threw up all over on the way home I think it was from stress, that was 3 yrs ago, now she is fine with it, but my babies are only there for 1 hr. I found a great groomer that lets me bring them in super early, like 6am, that way i know they are first and will be done right away best to you both

He was probably stressed out. That is exactally why I stopped going to Petsmart. Loved the groomer but the time frame was insane. I took Buddy in for an 11:00am appt and picked him up at 5:45! I kept calling after three and was given one excuse after the other. At five I just went in and he was on the table at that time. I gave her hell and never went back. Glad he's ok. Is is a possibility that he was given something to keep him calm? I now groom Bud myself, leaning as I go because he just refuses to get groomed by anyone anymore. | |

| I don't think that they gave him anything because he was ok when I picked him. As soon as we got home, he just curled up in a little corner on the sofa and just slept. I am scared of doing it myself even though he stays pretty still when I comb his hair and clean his teeth and ears. I will have the courage one day |

| Different places have different set ups. At my shop, I have them dropped off at their appt time. 9 times out of 10 they are started within 5 mins of being dropped off and finsihed within 1 hour...very rarely they have to wait 30 mins to be started. I have not yet run later then 30-45 mins late. And I always let the owners know. Most of the time pups don't mind our cages because I give them a nice blanket to curl up on and have a little snooze while they wait. I have more a of a problem with people going shopping and not arriving till 30 mins after the scheduled pick up time. Majority of the dogs don't mind but a few do and I feel so bad for them!!

| Lucy is always exhausted when she comes home from the groomers. She will do the same thing..Sleep most of the rest of the day. The first time I worried but I think it's normal now.

| My three are at the groomers right now! They were stressed in the car ride this morning and all where whining on the way there. UGGh! I think she is a good groomer and does it out of her house with no cages. I have been going to her for about 4 times and does a great job but I still am the worried mom.

| Petsmart and Petco SUCK!!!!!!! after my two experiences one at petsmart and one at petco, I will NEVER EVER get my dogs groomed there again. First off, YES they do sadate them... I know this for a fact. Second they throw them around like they are stuffed animals, watched this with my own eyes. Third they have young girls working that have NO experience in dog grooming. Fourth They nick and scratch and there skin, and split there nails when cutting them. Fifth they put them in cages with dryers and dont keep a close eye on them. several dogs have died from to much HOT heat. I have sat and watched dogs being groomed there on several occasions and it just makes me cringe to see how they treat dogs. They pull on there little legs so hard when they shave them, put that harness thing around there neck and hold there head up so high it has to be very uncomfortable. And if the dog even trys to cry, they say shut up your ok. I have seen this happen time and time again. If you dont believe me,,,take the time to go and sit outside the window and watch.. I got so mad at the petsmart in the woodlands in texas i actually went in the groom room and said to them do you have any idea what you are doing to that poor little dog., I made such a scene that the manager came in and asked what the problem was. After i said what was on my mind i walked out into the store and told everyone that i saw as I was leaving the store Please dont ever get your dog groomed here. PETSMART AND PETCO in my opnion really SUCK!!! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest......... |

When we got him nuetered my duaghter wanted to know if he was going to be sad like when he got his hair cut. I was scared he would nver come out from under the bed..LOL

| I have a client with two standard poodles that drives almost 60 miles one way every three weeks to get her dogs done and has for the last twelve years. Well Mason the oldest one is about to leave us and go to heaven soon as he has cancer, so they bought a third poodle. So last Saturday in all three came. Well Charlie the puppy, decided he didn't want to stay in a kennel while I did his older brothers so we let him run around the shop. I worked as fast as I could and had all three done in about 4 hours. When Leslie picked the boys up I told her Charlie was going to sleep well tonight, he was so tired from all his playing around the shop. She sent me a e-mail the next day and said he just crashed when he got home. Not only did he play for a long time he had to stand on the table and get scissored. It was a very big day for the boys. And my body will never be the same.... Charlie looking for trouble.jpg Charlie checking out the Wire Hair, "Sadie" Harrison boys.jpg All three boys, out side for a picture Harrison boys.....jpg All three boys on the table at once!!! There can be many reasons why dogs sleep when they get home , just standing on a grooming table for an hour can wear them out, and most groomers are not that fast.
