| New to TopKnots -- need some advice! Corabel's hair falls into her eyes all the time. She was in a really short cut this summer but now I would like to grow it out so that I can put her in a topknot to hold the hair away from her pretty face. What is the best to use - hair bands or clips? Do you use a gel? If so, what do you use? (So far, I've found Petsilk & CC Thick & Thicker) Can the gel be used to help hold some of the wispy hairs that aren't long enough yet? And, I'd love to see some photos of topknots to give me ideas! Also, any advice would be welcome!

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | http://members.cox.net/jrogan/topknot.html here is a website that has instructions. I just pull ther hair from the corner of the outside of the eye on both sides and in the middle between the ears put in a hair tie and presto!

| I'm more interested in what you are doing, rather than a show topknot. Do you use bands? What size?

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I use the tiny elastic colored ones that don't pull out the hair. I also use the cloth ones to when they are at home. I got some at petsmart those are the second pic.

| I use three bands for each top knot. One at the bottom where alot of people end with that, then I put one close to the top where it will hold all the hair in and lastly I pull the top backwards and put in another band. A show breeder showed me how to do it this way with a bow. Crystal is cut back now for the summer but her hair grows fast and I will send you a pic (close up) when it grows out if you are interested. I would think the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American website would have something on top knots and maybe that was already offered, I did not read all.

| I just use the latex rubber bands so they don't pull on her hair. If they do get stuck I cut them out with a small scissor, put cream rinse on her hair to undo the tangles, and put a new topknot in. Sometimes I'll add a barette..

| The best rubber bands that don't do so much damage to the hair are the ones from the dentist that they use on braces. That's where I get mine. You also should never pull the rubber band out of the hair. Use a tiny pair of scissors being very careful not to cut the hair. Along with useing the bands, you can use a gel. #1 All Systems has an Invisible Hold gel for this very purpose. I love their line of products!! http://mjmcompany.com/1allsystems-grooming.htm |

Thanks Cindy for the 3 band info - I've heard of the 3 bands but didn't know the placement. I also use the latex small bands so that they don't pull the hair and use very tiny sharp scissors to cut them out - no pulling.
