| Long Bang Hair Trouble...HELPPPPPPP I have Teddy who is 2.5 years old and his hair has finally grown so beautiful and long, he LOVES me to GROOM him all over!! But his bangs are driving me batty!! I can't keep a ponytail in it he won't leave it there, pulls, tugs, rolls till it comes out and it gets so matted and tangled, feels rough now and now breaking from hangin' in his face yep it covers his eyes too so I told him something's got to be done with it so I can keep his eyes opened and not covered!!!!! I use the C&C brush...My older girls (ages 23 & 21) tease me and say pretty bad when U're dogs has a designer brush and U're kids don't...What's wrong with this picture Mom? LOL!! Use Plush Puppy ONLY shampoo and cond. on him, use the Primrose stuff from Plush Puppy sometimes but how can I keep it up and not cut it, he just wouldn't look right with it cut and ALL the rest of him long!! Any thoughts? How do I keep it from breaking on his head, he looks as if he's starting to go bald in a spot by his ear. Here's photos of him right after a bath of course he yanked that ponytail right out!!! His coat is soft. Isn't he cute with that tounge out he does this ALL the time! PLEASE someone help me said his bangs!!! Hugs, Lee and Babies! |

| Lee, He's a handsome guy. He has great blue tones in his coat. The body hair probably would be okay if you just banded it. Take the small terry cloth bands for little girls hair and give him 4 pony tails, 2 on each side of his body. That will keep the hair off of the grass when he's outside and keep him from peeing on it. You can try this for the topknot too. If you see him messing with it tell him "no" and give him something to distract him. It's usually just a case of him getting used to it. If you would rather wrap him, I remove the wraps every other day and brush the hair out. I than reoil if needed and rewrap. Plastic wraps work well on males and can be reused. You can get the wraps and the bands to secure them from the color coordinated canine at www.laineeltd.com. Use plenty of conditioner as soft coats tend to get dry skin. My 20 year old daughter complains that my yorkies are my babies when she should be. Oh well, she's so busy I do spend more time with them and I always know where they are. It's funny how things change as we get older. Tami

| How about trying braids like Vi does. It really looks great & I think that it may stay in better. ALSO, you may want to make sure that there is no ear issues that may be bother him ( which would explain all the rubbing up there). Good Luck! (Your Yorkie is adorable!!! Love the full coat)

| Gracie won't leave rubber bands alone. However, she is not bothered by the terry cloth scrunchie bands. Those don't tug and pull the hair like grooming bands do.

| Okay girls here WHY He needs something done. I haven't brushed him since yesterday morning, put hair up yesterday morning and took it out last night and put it up this morning (Brushed his head and that was it this morning) and out it came in about an hour! And yes his little tounge is ALWAYS out, he even sleep with it out!!!!! Cracks me up! So see he does need something, I just can't take his hair in his face and I know it's getting wet and food in it when he eats and drinks. I just have to get him use to it!! It will take time but I WILL!!! I carry him in & out the very back door to the backyard for I just landscaped it and put mulch down and his coat is so long on his legs it just grabs that mulch, I have brick seperating it from the yard and he'll come running and I'll holler Teddy stop and he's skidding to a hault and stands there for me to pick him up so he does listen!!!! It's funny to see. I'll take a photo tomorrow of my back yard to show U what I'm talking about. I thought about braids too but like U scared they will tangle bad and he's already bad with that. But somethings go to help! Thanks again for all U're thoughts. Hugs, Lee & babies |

| WEll doesn't he look adorable with his tongue. Teddi sticks hers out quite often as well. The wraps that I use are about 8" by 5'" and are plastic. I also have the paper kind in a smaller size for his facial furnishings. We usually start getting these dogs used to being banded while they are quite young and that makes it easier. Starting at 2 1/2 is going to make this a challenge. I use pet silk coat oil or a mixture of seabreeze oil and water. In the pic it looks like he could use his paws trimmed, that might help. I'd start with banding the hair on his sides with the Terry cloth bands so that he won't do as much damage while he's getting used to it. The first time I put Connor in wraps Remi kindly helped him remove them. I just kept it up and now they are both so used to them they don't pay them any mind. We're struggling with keeping the facial furnishings wrapped now since they break coat when they play. I am determined to finish this dog but I refuse to keep him in solitary confinement. He and Remi are best buddies and he needs to be a dog. If all else fails I'll send him to a handler and she can be the big meanie! The truth is Connor is really spoiled and it's starting to show in the ring so we have toughened up on him some. Sounds like your boy wants to please you so I think if you keep working on it he'll get it. Make sure you give him treats when he does well and leaves the bands alone.

| U are so sweet to help me help him!!!!! Thanks so very much. See I'm like U I don't want to put him in another room just to have a pretty coat. I mean since I put Tiffanie in the living room so she could have some peace until she has her babies (I put a gate up between the living room and kitchen) and our 2 boys are in the kitchen, well Teddy and Galahad have been playing a lot more with each other...I mean they can get into some knock down drag outs over dirty harry (That silly stuffed dog we have) I mean they aren't hurting each other, they just grawl at each other and every now and then nip each other. But they have so much fun together. I really don't know if Teddy wants to please me or if it's himself!! Really I can take him outside on our patio and lay him on his back in my lap and start brushing him and he just lays there, even if he's sliding through my legs, everyone can't get over how he just LOVES and I do mean LOVES to be brushed, he loves me to put his hair up, he just stands so still but it's the afterwards that is my trouble, I mean there's time he won't touch them but there's time I can't keep them in. His mood I guess! LOL! I want a soft coated girl now so bad like Teddys coat. But Tiffanie has had silkys so far. I just love the coats on them. I love Tiffanies too but it's even harder for me to keep a ponytail in hers it slides right out. Teddy is so meek and mellow, hardly ever barks to where Tiffanie and Galahad are driving U nuts barking at the least little thing. My sister just came over awhile ago and of course she had to ring the door bell (She does it non stop till I get to the door) well Galahad HATES it and her now too for doing it to him! She ask why he hates her I said U scared him to death with that door bell that one time and he's never forgotten it. I'll get Teddy going on the tails he may not like it but oh well he'll grow use to it...No Galahad might be my trouble by taking them out. I already have the seabreeze oil, I'll get some of the other U said to get too. Thanks again for all U're thoughts. Hugs, Lee and Babies |

| Your welcome. Just keep at it and you'll get there. I had a soft coat that I kept long once. He was a beauty but not a good example of the breed due to coat type and size. He's Connor's half brother and I have a pup now that I swear is Keegan reincarnate.

| This thread has been interesting to read. Tami - thanks for posting the picture of your guy in wraps. I had never seen a dog in wraps before and in my mind, I kinda picture that you had to totally put all their hair in curlers! So the photo doesn't look bad at all! |

| Tami, hello again I got Teddy, Tiffanie and Galahad their weekly bath this morning and I'm going to Band him 1st with the Terry ponys 1st in a little bit after he drys. I also wanted to know how do U comb/brush (Which one is best for this??) after their bath (I mean like while they are wet) I usually have to wait until Teddy is 100% dry to brush him due to it being so hard to get through his coat after his bath. I also TRY not to rub him while I bath him, I say TRY cause I catch myself scrubbin' away! (I can scrub on the other 2 for their coats don't tangle like Teddys, well not Tiffanie now cause the babies! LOL!) I use the Plush Puppy shampoo and Cond on him EVERY bath which is once a week for each of them. I also let the cond. sit on him a few extra minutes this bath. Any thoughts on this? Now when he is 100% dried on his own I just spray his coat down and brush away. Also do U let U're babies dry on it's own or blow dry. I know when Teddy is drying on his own he's all over the floor (Carpet) rubbing around, acts like a mad dogs so that can lead to knots, tangles and matts and yep I brush him out very well before his bath. I let all 3 of them dry in our hall so they don't get the lamanate floor all wet. Any thoughts there? I'm going to get Galahad's bangs in a terry holder today too! Maybe running and putting them in all day but oh well that's what we have to do then that's what we have to do! LOL! Hugs and Many Thanks for U're advice, U're teaching me so very much on the coats!!!!! Lee & Babies |

| When you shampoo run the suds through the hair with long gentle strokes. Squeeze as much water out of the coat before leaving the tub. Blot, don't rub with a towel. Blow dry and don't touch the coat with a brush or comb until it is halfway dry, use your fingers to fluff. Once it is halfway dry use a pin brush to brush the hair as you continue to dry. Never brush a dry coat with a pin brush if necessary use a boar bristle brush. It's best to not let them rub on any thing as this will break coat. Most of the rules that apply to the care of your own hair apply to the care of your yorkies hair as well

| Okay I got him all banded and he loved me doing it that was around 5 this evening and now it's 6:38 and he still hasn't bothered them...Hope he don't either. Do U take them out @ night? I have a C&C pin brush, I wet him down good to band his hair. I did braid his hair on his tail just to show U how long it is. Now I remember U said something about trimming his legs...Honestly did U go look @ that photo of Tiffanie's legs??? Do U think I really should do it? Just teasing. I hate to cut them down or trim them, yes around his paws and I just did that a few weeks ago when I got his nails trimmed @ the vet, his hair does grow very fast. Can I wrap them, I haven't tried the bands in them yet thought I'd get U're thoughts 1st. Thanks so much for all U're help. It seems to be working so far, I don't want to brag to much tho I might walk in there and their all out! LOL! HOPE NOT!!!!!! Wait till my girls sees him now! Talking about being made fun of!! I'll be the laughing stock of the neighborhood!!!!! Hugs and hope U have a great weekend, Lee and Babies |
