| Clipping Claws... I did do a search but it came up with 3 results! I want to clip her claws myself but I'm scared how much to take off... any tips anyone? Signs to look for? I've done them this afternoon and she will not stay still which makes it hard and they are really sharp, all I've managed to do it clip the ends off and then file them round with my nail file... this that okay to do?? They are still pretty long...

| i've noticed if you look at the side of their nails, you can see a while/pink area that is the quick... and then it ends and there is just black... a flashlight helps if you can't see it... today i brought layla to petsmart to get them done and they cut too far and she bled.. so we won't be going there anymore.. if she is going to get cut it's going to be by me so i can make it up to her... she was a sad girl today |

| You can use a very coarse emery board to file them if you can take charge somehow. Beauty supply stores sell some really rough emery boards, and Wal-Mart has the black ones that are two to a package which work really well too. My Azraels nails take about 6 months before she barely needs them filed. Strangest nails I've ever seen on a dog. |

| I bought the electric nail filer by oster.....it works great, you just do a little at a time until you see the start of the quick. It is nice because you can round the edges and then no more sharp points. Try it......it is great !!!!!!! Blessings |

| When you cut the nail look at the cut surface. If it is all the same color (grayish) cut a little more. Continue to take little slices until you see a black dot in the middle of the cut surface. That is when you stop. Now use that nail as a guide on the others. Look for this dot on each nail after you cut it. If there is no black dot in the center cut more. If you continued to take slices off after first seeing the black dot the dot gets bigger and eventually pink then will bleed so you have a little room for error here. Lots of people are really hesitate to take enough off and just cut the tip every few weeks. This is not a great idea because the quick will continue to get longer and eventually you will not be able to cut enough off without hitting the quick and the dogs toes are eventually damaged by walking on long nails.

| Help...Dog gets hysterical when I try to clip nails.... My one year old Bentley gets wild if I try to clip his nails. And he's not willing to stay still for brushing either. Are there any triicks? He squirms like crazy and makes it impossible. I'm wishing there was some sort of pill I could give him to calm him down for for nail clipping.

| reply to myself..... I didn't want to take Bentley to a groomer to get nails clipped because I thought it would be "too hard" on him to struggle like that again. But I did finally take him Friday afternoon.,..and it was the best thing I have done. They had the job does in less than 10 minutes...and he wasn't nearly as freaked out as the last time. And he didn't shriek and carry on. I guess these two people knew how to do it right. Helped to have a man hold him while the girl did the clipping. And...it only cost $7.00 to do it. that's the best $7.00 I've ever spent...lol

| I had my vet show me how to do this. It is very easy if they sit still. She recomended a pair of clippers that are meant for cats because yorkies are very small. They look like mini black sccisors, the kind you would use on your nails. You just take off the very tip that curves down a bit, and be carefull not to go to far that you dont cut the quick. i take off about 2-3mm. i do it every 3-4 weeks, depending on how much natural wear there has been. Hope that helps you some!! sure helped me, any grooming i can do at home i am much more comfortable with. Its hard to trust anyone with your baby!
