| Diluting Shampoo and Bottles for it Okay, I have bought some gallons of shampoo and I am in need of big bottles for diluting them and using them....like big squirt bottles are something. I have some little travel size ones, but that just doesn't seem big enough. Can someone tell me what they use when they dilute their shampoo/conditioner? PetSilk can be diluted 16:1 - does anyone do that? And w/o sounding stupid, what is that actually? The Furminator (for the big dogs) can be diluted 5:1. Thanks!

| I actually got a big spray bottle from the Dollar Tree on 6th Street in Fayetteville. Would those work? The have different color tops so you could tell everything apart. If not, I am sure there is some sort of container that would and they would be cheap. Hope this helps ya out. |

| Hummmmmm....thanks, I will try that! I didn't think about a spray bottle. My DH said to use an old shampoo bottle, but I didn't know about that idea! HA!

| I used the large spray bottles and found that I was breathing in the "mist" from the sprays!!! It was NOT GOOD! Now I use old Dish washing liquid bottles, the caps open and close with a flip of your thumb abd you can dispense a little at a time and its easy to shake up when needed and your not worried about whats stuck in that tube connested to the spray trigger????

| I just use water bottles. The small ones are 16.9 oz (I think) so for your shampoo that dilutes 16 to 1 just add about an ounce of shampoo and fill to the top with water. You don't need to be exact here on the one ounce of shampoo just guess. I dilute my regular dog shampoo (not concentrate) about 4 or 5 to 1. Still plenty strong and easier to rinse out. It takes very little shampoo to get a little yorkie clean. Especially if you are like me and wash them every week.

| Dilute shampoo? I was wondering if you could be more exact in how you dilute the shampoo. I have a bottle of partly used Espree Silky Show Shampoo. I wonder if I get all the shampoo out so diluting may be a great help in that situation. How much shampoo do I use to how much water? I know you gave the numbers but I am not sure I understand it. I do have 16.9 fl oz water bottle to use. You said you dilute your regular dog shampoo 4 or 5 to 1. I am sorry but I don't understand how much of each to use.. Thank you for being kind enough to help me understand. |

The correct dilution ration depends on the product brand and your dog. Each one is different, but you can't go wrong. Experiment with each bath. Some products will have suggestions for diluting on the bottle. Diluting may help a little relative to rinsing, but there is no way around spending extra time rinsing. Some people use a water and apple cider vinegar mix to remove shampoo residue. I don't recall the dilution rate on that. Very little apple cider vinegar is needed. Other people recommend using a clarifying shampoo every 4-6 weeks.

| ...I think the smaller number is the shampoo, 1 part, and the larger numbers would be water. So, something like 1 ounce shampoo to 4 or more ounces of water.

| Diluting Shampoo Maximo, Thank you so very much for your kind reply. You gave me a lot of useful information. I had thought of using the vinegar rinse you spoke of but was not sure it would be good for his hair. The smell of the shampoo is so strong that I feel I must not get all the shampoo out. I do rinse and rinse and then rinse some more. But I can't keep him in the sink forever.lol So this all sounds really good. |
