1st Time Groomers Mon. for Tyson..Help Help I know that proably somewhere in this awsome forum there is a anwser to this question but I wanted to make sure this was one was seen and hopefully replied to with any new info anyone has, Tyson has his first groomers appt in 2 days and I know he should have gone earlier then now, he is almost 5 months old,and and I guess my question is how am I asking them to cut him? His coat is so pretty I see no signs of blonde getting ready to come thru on top of his head on his body, he does have the normal blonde/tan on his feet etc and I guess what I am trying to say is I want him to keep his puppy look, but I also want him to be able to see, we tried to cut his hair around his eyes and is is sooooooo uneven. So I guess is there a certain type cut you ask for on a yorkie? Thanks for any input, sorry if I am allover the place. This time of the year and having a puppy leave just about no time anythng but those things. Happy Holidays to all............... CHRISTINE,TJ AND TYSON

You could tell the groomer you want a "puppy cut"... though you need to be careful with that, a puppy cut means different things to different groomers. Just tell them how you want it cut. Two inches shorter on the body? Shaved short? Trim around the eyes? Your best bet would probably be to find a photo of a clip you like, print it out and bring it along to show the groomer. You probably can't expect him to come home looking perfect on a first groom, and depending on how he behaves they might not be able to get a whole lot done. Just try not to be upset if he doesn't come out looking EXACTLY how you wanted him to. Hope everything goes well! Good luck!

layla is going to a new groomer two weeks monday... and i'm not saying "puppy cut" because i'm scared what i'll end up with... i'm just telling them.. i want around her bum, feet and face trimmed.. but not to touch the hair above her eyes (trying desperatly to grow it so it will fit into her top knot.. at the moment she has "bang") i will also tell them that i don't want a yorkie cut (they shave the ears and other stuff) but to just leave her current "style" but bring it up in length.. we are going to florida for the holidays and i dont' want her to be too hot. Good luck and post pictures! oh also i ask if they put "cologne" on after because i'm not a fan of it

Puppy cut is a generic term meaning short like a puppy, it could mean shaved or up to three inches long. So try and not ever use names. Take some notes in on what you want . Talk only to the groomer that is going to groom your dog. If you do not get to talk to the groomer, don't leave your dog there. Make sure she knows exactly what you want before you leave. To keep a puppy cut longer than one inch the groomer needs to know how to hand scissor, and not all groomers can do this. About the hair out of the eyes , just tell her how you want it and she should be able to do it for you. Most of the time the hardest part about grooming is deciphering what the person wants from what she is telling you. The clearer you can be with your directions the better your chances are for getting what you want. Do not tell someone how many inches you want left show them how much you want cut off. I have had people come in and say to me leave a inch and their fingers are showing me three. So I keep talking until we both are on the same page. I believe most people know what they want just not how to explain it to a groomer. I think the most exciting part about grooming is when the new client comes back and she says "that is just the way I wanted it!!!" I wish you lots of luck, there are many bad groomers out there and some should not even be grooming, but on the other hand there are some very good ones. I would stay and watch if at all possible, if you do stay keep your mouth quiet, do not walk around, do not go in and out of the shop, as your dog will keep looking for you. Nothing is harder than to have a client talking to their dog while you are trying to trim it. In my years of grooming I have told many to sit down and be quiet for the safety of their dogs. Can't wait to see pictures, take them before and then after.

| Don't feel bad. I'm getting ready to take Gracie for her first grooming. She is just over 6 months. I plan to ask them to cut off the puppy coat, leaving the adult coat. Her adult coat is 1-2" long. I will ask for a trim around her eyes so she can see, but leave her top knot alone even though it has some black in it. I will also ask for the routine foot pad, ear and bum trim and nail trim.

I used to live in Bellevue Washington I worked at a shop called Best Friends. I still have a very good friend that works there her name is Karen. If you haven't picked out a groomer yet go there and ask for Karen she is very good and treats the dogs very nice. Tell her Debbie Ray sent you, it will make her smile!!!

Thanks for all the replys, when I get some pics and my fiance has some time I want to put them up, notjust to show you his haircut, but to introduce him to all the other cute yorkies on here. I took bits and pieces from everyone and seeing how this is our first pup and I had no idea what he was supposed to really look like meaning his adlt hair etc, I think he came back OK, one thing for sure is no scrapes or scratches, I will be sure to get some pics of here and bring them next time, there sre so many cute yorkies on here tht are older then TY and still have tht puppy look and dont get me wrong I do feel the cut is a good job I feel my puppy is gone, I know it will grow back and I had no idea how little his ears really were, they cut soooooooo much hair off his ears, took a lot of his face, did a great job with the body, but I can sure see where the adult hair I guess you call it is here. I take him to Petsmart for eveyrthing, vet, school, groomers etc and so far no trouble. I had a few people tell me he is not a ypical yorkie because he is all black exept where he is supposed to be tan, like his feet, under his chin, a little on his face and tail and when you look at his skin he almost looks blue. I dont plan on showing him or breeding him, me and my fiance got him for a pet.....so we thought..........he is actually our first born child, we our still trying to figure out how in the heck we fell in love with this 4 legged extra hariy human baby, he is 5 month and I had a few people tell me the top of his head and face should be blonde........well its not, and I sure dont care, we got papers and I registered him and got his pedigree back and it says hes a yorkie. Really I dont care at this point if he turned green and grew another leg we love him more then words can say, he is the best little man ever, thanks to all you guys for the help and I will try and get some pics of him soon CHRISTINE
