| Are you supposed to trim the hair above a yorkie's nose and around the eyes? My yorkie is almost 5 months and today was her first trip to the groomer. I wanted her to have the hair around her feet trimmed a little, have her nails clipped and also have the hair on her ears trimmed. When I picked her up (and I didn't notice this until after I left) I realized that the reason I could see her adorable little face so much better and there wasn't hair in front of her eyes anymore was because the groomer trimmed the hair down right above the nose...and also around the eyes a little. Now you can see her face so much better, she looks soo cute! I am wondering if that is something that is commonly done to yorkies? I see pictures of other yorkies and it doesn't seem like it. Usually the hair just parts down the middle of the nose. Anyway, she looks great now but I am wondering what is going to happen when it starts growing back? It is a great thing now because her eyes have discharge sometimes and it was difficult to clean around her eyes because it got stuck in all the hair and now her face is so much cleaner. But like I said, I don't know what will happen when it starts growing back...has anyone else had this done to their yorkie? |

| It's entirely up to you! There are some members on here with pups who have the area between their eyes shaved or clipped right down - it's good because it keeps hair out of their eyes and helps to prevent eye tearing. The breeder did this to Ruthie before I got her - and it's such a pain to grow out! I am opting to grow it out because keeping it short requires so much more maintenance and I wouldn't trust myself to do it (I'd be afraid of hurting her) - I want to do the majority of grooming myself (trip to the groomers on occasion maybe) so growing it out is just easier for me. You're right though, it is nice to be able to see those sparkly eyes without a mess of hair in front of them!

| The first and only time I've taken my dogs to the groomer she did that. As the hair grew out, it just poked right into their eyes!! Causing much more tearing. Unless you are vigilant about keeping it short it will do that. IMO. I'm still working on growing my girls out on their nose. It doesn't poke into their eyes any more, but it sticks straight out on each side and looks hilarious!

| You decide how a groomer should do it. I prefer longer hair in order to put it up in a topknot.

| I have the groomer trim Olivers hair around the eyes and nose. Since I don't put a topknot, it's easier for him to see when it's trimmed.

| Max has his hair between his eyes and on his snout trimmed. He goes to the groomer every 8-10 weeks so it doesn't grow into his eyes and cause a problem. I like the look on Max so I probably won't take the time to grow it in. Abbie's isn't trimmed. I put her hair up in a topknot but the hair between her eyes was trimmed when we got her and it took FOREVER to grow it in. Here's a picture of Max right after his "spa day" so the hair between his eyes is nice and short

| Like other said, it totally depends on your preference. I personally don't like this look on Trixie. The second time she got groomed they shaved her entire nose and the hair around her eyes. So now I always tell them NOT to shave the nose and to feather the hair around her eyes.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | We aren't susposed to trim that hair - but I do. I feel it's for sight and comfort that I do it - and really - it's not like my girls are in shows...they're life consists of spying on my neighbors in the back yard and they NEED good vision so they don't miss out on any action lol - Bren...that shot is ADORABLE !!! Here's a shot I took last year of Chanel where I trim - it really opens up their eyes - |

| In the past, I have always trimmed the hair between their eyes. Lately I have been debating on whether I want to grow it in or not because their hair grows rather fast and it is sometimes a pain to have to keep trimming it. But, even though I am using gel, it is still getting in their eyes pretty bad and making their eyes water. So, I'm probably going to end up trimming them again. I don't show them and I don't put their hair in topknots. And I love the way it opens up their eyes and makes them big and brown when I trim the hair. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's how I felt girl - even with gel it gets hard and can hurt their eyes so I just trim the smallest amount I can - and it works really well for them - they don't have that sticking in their eyes and I can SEE those gorgeous little peepers. go Lexi on that topknot !! I can't wait to see |
