| 1st Time Yorkie Everything..... OK....................I need some guidance on what I am doing with 11 week old Tyson..........the first thing I need help with is what kind of brush to use, we have one now tht we use or shall I say TRY to use when he is not trying to bite it. 2nd question......I am taking him to the groomers next Tuesday he will be a little over 12 weeks, now wht am I asking them to do, he is our pet we are not using him for show and we will be keeping his hair short but I want to get the stuff trimmed tht needs to be trimmed, like his bottom, my fiance wants to be able to do this ourselves at some point but I am kinda scared.....and what about his ears, one ear is just standing up as tall as it can be and the other one is just about folded on half, what hair am I supposed to be trimming to take the weight off.............sorry for all the questions but this is the first time either of us have owned our own puppy and I want to keep Ty as handsome as he can be.As for his bangs they are not bithering him yet, but am I supposed to pull it back in a ponytail..........? My fiance had a fit when I told him we would have to give him a ponytail, I promised him no cute stuff, but hes not buying it...........any tips on ANYTHING will do, I just want to know a little bit wht to ask for when I bring him in CHRISTINE |

| Good luck with your new baby. I do my own grooming, I learned it by trial and error. I will suggest thast if you plan to do it yourself, get or make a grooming arm that will clamp on to a table or counter top. It made a big difference with mine. Before the grooming arm, they would roll on their backs asd bite at the brush. With the grooming arm they are not perfecct, but a whole lot more cooperative. |

I don't pull Ferdinand's hair back in a pony tail. He's 4.5 months old and we've only had him groomed once... and that was about a month ago. Oh, if you're going to do the grooming yourself, make sure your clippers are quiet or it might scare the little guy. Good luck!

| DIY or the Groomer I keep the hair on my boys faces trimmed, and on thier ears. I have a groomer come to the house a few times a year to trim them properly as I can't get the faces " Right " like she can. In between I trim the hair arond the muzzle and eyes, I trained them to accept this from an early age, but if you don't feel confident to do it yourself, maybe ask a groomer to do it. A dog can sense when you are not in control of what you are doing, I agree with the member who mentioned QUIET clippers. Some are quite scared by load ones. Keeping hair from the eyes is important, discomfort and vision for two reasons, but infection being another. Some people use bows/bands on longer hair to keep it out of thier eyes. It all depends on personal preference I have never tied my boys hair as they are boys and I don't feel right. But many are fine with it. I am open to conversion on it though, anyone with any photo's of BOYS hair in top knots or bows, or bands ??? |

| Thanks for the info.........I am trying to get him used to the brush and I gave him his first bath last week, he did OK, for the most part.........I bathed him in the sink so I could hold him close and the blow drying part just about sent him over the edge....but we got thru it.....I really want to learn how to clip his nails, I took him to his puppy class tonight and the teacher was nice enough to clip them for me, she felt bad cause they were so long and didnt want them to get caught on anything.........thanks again to all, you just dont know hoe much I rely on this site.......and I am sure Ty thanks you guys also..................thanks again CHRISTINE and Ty |

| The groomers will give you a few pointers as well... Is his hair matted anywhere? They might want to cut it shorter instead of putting him through the dematting, esp that it's his first appointment. The sanitary areas and paws are always trimmed, you might want to trim his belly hair short as well, you can't see it and makes a whole new difference while brushing. My pup doesn't like being combed, he's getting a little better though and I usually do it first thing in the AM before he really wakes up. It's only his puppy hair and it's going to grow out anyways, the new hair coming out on Pepper is so much thicker and smoother, way easier to take care of.

| I take Piccolo to the groomer but I know that you should shave his ears 1/3 from the top in order for his ears to stand up. Piccolo's one ear was down and after grooming - it just popped up.
