| cottony or silky hair? How do I know which one my puppy has? I know her hair will change when she's an adult, but for now, how do I know what her hair is? All of her hair on her body (not her head) is wavy. She's easy to maintain, but I wash/brush her twice a week and comb her out pretty good in between. I can see that her black hair has an almost blue sheen to it in the light, when I first got her I didn't know that was how she was supposed to be :-) So, just trying to figure out what I'm dealing with since alot of you recommend products based on this fact. Thanks so much. I love coming here! |

YT Addict | I'm kinda in the same dilema. I think i know the difference and i know for sure i have both kinds. One of my males is like cotton to touch and the others are like silk and their hair is thinner and lays flat on their bodies. My oldest female has wavy hair which isn't standard, but to me she is Beautiful! THe oldest male is perfect but only 2 lbs. He is a doll though, nice golden colors with long blue straight , heavy coat. He has silk hair i'm quiet sure of. I'm just guessing the other male i have has cotten hair. He is a beauty and lots and lots of hair. I've never been told which is what, so i'm coming up with my own conclusions. Would appreciate any input out there also. Thanks for YT |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | How old is she? As they get older, you can part the hair on the body and see if they are the steel blue by the skin. You can get the color that way but it'll be a while until you can tell the texture. You could always go by the eye shine test. As they get older (4 months), when you take a picture, the flash will reflect a color in their eyes. Green means silk, orange or red means cottony. If the eyes still reflect back blue, that's puppy eyes and you need to wait a little while longer.

| Well, in most pictures she appears to have a green reflection in her left eye and the right eye is greenish blue. It's only the iris, not the whole eye. Does that mean I need to wait awhile. She's only 14 or 15 weeks I think. Last edited by Zoiesmom11; 04-25-2006 at 12:02 PM. Reason: want to clarify statement |

Also if you refad the thread under General discussions about coat color and texture, it does give some clues. For instance very thin puppy hair will result in silky adult hair. | |
