| Getting in a topknot Getting in the topknot My Zoie is not very good at letting me do much to her. She hates to be brushed, so she only gets it done after her biweekly bath. She also hates to have a harness put over her head. She bites me like I'm killing her LOL. I had her groomed and they said she did fine, but for me she's terrible. I want to put a bow in her hair, but I can't get her still enough to even get a rubber band in her hair. Plus, there's so little of it anyway.......what do you guys recommend for putting a bow in her hair?? I need something easy :-) |

| Well let me first say that I am from Missouri too! Yay! My Chloe is 8 months old and I have never been able to get a bow in her hair! Well Saturday she went to the groomers and when I picked her up she had a bow in her hair! Everyday since then I have been able to get one in her hair. I dont know what the groomer did to her but she sits so still for me now when I put it up! She would always scream for me like I was killing her when in reality I knew that I was not hurting her one bit They are just little drama queens!

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Sit on them I, the mother whose dd's ponytails, pigtails, and braids, always looked like a one handed blind person attempted hairstyling...am trying to learn to do topknots. I sat on the floor with my legs out straight, placed Ramsey between my legs, more or less spit bathed the hair I wanted to put up. I used the ouchless rubber band thingys. You can get them from the drug store and they're small so you don't have to wrap them around too much. Then clipped a barrette underneath. Unfortunately she kinda looked like this LOL....I definitely need some practice That and she needs to quit rubbing her face and head along everything...trying to get it OUT PS It helped that I had a piece of "real" bacon there to bribe her with too. PPSS She didn't really look like this... She was very cute...for ten minutes any way.

| I play with the hair on the top of Ollie's head when she is sitting on my lap, so she associates it with relaxing, therefore when I go to put the bows in she does really well. I have a nerve disorder and have no feelings in my hands, and very poor coordination, so it takes me forever to get a topknot done, so I need her to be very patient. |

| top knots OK, once you can actually get the top knot in, how do you get it to stay in for more than a few minutes?????? Are there any special kinds of bows that work better than others? I was told to just get the kind that little girls might wear. I tried one kind but it didn't stay in. Tinka is just learning sit better for me to get anything in her hair. She just turned 4 months. I give her a tiny treat whenever we're done trying to "fix" her hair. Sitting here, I just put this special little ouchless binder in her hair and it's already out - but she sat still and didn't make a fuss! Yea!!!! omega |

| Ok here's my crazy way of putting her hair up. It's really not too crazy but its probably going to sound like it. I sit on the floor with my legs out in a V shape and put her in between them facing away from me. I have her sit down and I cross one leg over the other in front of her. Think indian style but only one leg crossed with the dog in the middle. She usually will lay her head down on my leg and sit there until I'm done. This way worked great for me in the beginning because it let me hold her with my legs and free up both hands to do the hair. Now she's used to it and I don't need to cross my leg unless her mind is somewhere else, like catching those pesky cats. As far as hair bands go I have found that the plain rubberband looking ones are the best at staying in. You get them in the hair section and they are about the size, well just big enough to fit around a finger maybe. These work great especially if you pup is the kind that still likes to pull them out. And if they get tangled you can just cut them to get them out. As far as the ouchless goes that is what I prefer now because it does the least damage to the hair(I think) but I've found that they can come in different thicknesses and I prefer the thin ones. I didn't know this until I bought some thicker ones, they just don't stretch as well making it harder to get them in and tight enough to actually stay in. The ouchless ones slide out easier though so if your pup is a wild one or trys to get it out then its easier to start with the plain rubber ones. Other than that my fav thing is the small butterfly clips they work great to just toss their hair up real quick, although Reagan does tend to get these out every now and then. Just watch them with these, Reagan doesn't try to swallow them but I'm sure some pups will. Just keep trying different things, you'll find something that works. Good Luck.

| I use the nylon bands for Pixie and Parises hair. I use the smallest size, they look like dental bands at first! They are about as round as a pencil, but once you streach them over your finger they are a bit bigger! I only need to wrap it three times around the hair. I could do 4, or for much thicker hair only twice. They hold very well! And yes they do "Slide" right out, with some help! I spray with Ice on Ice and grab with fingers and it does slide along the hair... right out! No pulling at all! But it stays in place all day! And yes, Pixie will do the head on ground scoot, trying to remove it at first! she's too funny! But it does her no good! I have actually sewn these bands onto most of her bows in place of the rubber ones... The rubber broke so much hair... and we are trying to grow it out... I don't want to be dealing with breakage forever! No more rubber! As for getting in.... I was blessed with Pixie... she was a natural... Paris... Not so much! But one session of "I'm bigger than you!" And she doesn't fight me on it anymore They can't go very far when you have their top knot hair in your hand! And Once the big Fight is over and you win.... Tell her how pretty she is and treat her to no end! next time will get easier and so will the time after that! But do it often at first, so she is learning, not so spaced out that she forgets! And make it a HIGH VALUE TREAT! My girls will let me do anything to them if they think a HVT is coming! Its the Ace up your sleeve!
