| Rake comb Hi- I got KimMee groomed yesterday and while I thought her hair had gotten a lot longer and thicker since last visit- really it was just molting or so said the groomer. She used a rake comb on her and got all this loose hair out. It was unbelievable- enough hair to make another KimMee. The groomer said she still has her puppy coat at 18 months old. I couldn't believe how much hair she pulled out with the comb. The groomer lets me stay because KimMee is so wild when getting groomed. Has anyone ever heard of this about Yorkies? Now her coat is so soft and silky feeling. amazing. |

| Yorkies Well, they do not actually molt or shed..the dead hair comes out when brushed just like ours. If it is not groomed regular, then it mats and the dead hair makes it very hard to brush. Your girl looks wonderful..it is best to keep that type coat short and your groomer has done a wonderful job reducing the hair volume. Sometimes my grooming place would look like I was sheering sheep by the end of the day. |

| Thanks Pat for the info- yes it did look like she was shearing sheep. I haven't been using a good enough brush but am definitely going to invest in one now. I sure appreciate your comments |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | There's that little DOLL ! She looks BEAUTIFUL and hang on to that groomer - not many will do that. I use a rake on Chanels hair too....KimMee looks Just like Chanel did at that age.....I've tried to find a groomer in Houston that would do this and never had any luck....so you found a good one. Plus she lets you stay - AWESOME ! She is so adorable - everytime I see her picture I just want to clone her .... |

| Why does it take a "rake" comb to remove dead hair?? Why doesn't it just come out with regular brushing?? |

I've been using one on my Chanel since she turned about 2 years old - if I didn't she would have a TON of hair. A Silky coated yorkie doesn't need a comb like this...a brush or regular comb work fine. I've never used one on my youngest Cheri. Her hair is just fine as it is. | |

| what does a rake comb look like/ This is probably what I need to use on Silk. She has a silky coat but it is very thick and I am not going to cut it. I only trim because I LUVVVVVV her coat but have worried that it is too thick. it never matts and I have been combing it and brushing it daily. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I believe the right word is Dematting/Splitter Comb. It really does look like a little rake ? It's really for getting out mats but I use it for thinning..... you have to be very careful using it - |
