| What grooming supplies do you need for show? Just curious because I'm hoping to get a show yorkie in the near future! Thought I should know now so I'm prepared.

| I am not an exhibitor, but have been to a show and read all of the threads here by exhibitors. Here are some of things I have learned: - grooming table/stand with cover (some exhibitors use a little cart on wheels that can hold dog crates and storage below) - your choice of shampoo/conditioner/coat dressings for hair wraps, silk jacket - combs and brushes - Funniest tool I have read about: a knitting needle to part the topline hair -- bands and show bows, dressings for topknots -- good scissors for snipping hair tips and general trimming -- hair dryer, ideally a hands-free setup that has a no heat setting

| What is coat dressings and dressings for topknots? I know that you wrap a yorkies coat but what are the dressings? Are they just a mixture of oils or a product you buy online?

For fixing the topknot on show days, same thing. Most of what they use on show days (spray, gel, or their own recipes) is removed after the show to preserve the hair and for the safety of the dogs' eyes, I would imagine. A few have said Vellus Satin Creme (purchase online) is good for that. Finding a mentor and going to shows, talking to the exhibitors after the show, is a great way to learn.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Vellus Satin Cream is used on the topknot in between shows not on show days. For the topknot on show days - very slim bands to gather hair up - teasing comb to add volume n stability to the topknot - red show bow *red is current popular color* hair spray for top knot - topknot gel to gather in errant strands Straightening iron for coat Anti static grooming spray Show lead Very good brush - try CC or Madam gold pin brush In between show days Wrapping paper for their hair and wider bands - Oil of your choice for the hair - I like argon light oil other folks use their own mixture - it will depend upon the type of silk coat you have and the environment your dog lives in - humid or dry etc. What I call my oil brush Silk wrapping jacket Combs one larger spaced tooth comb one narrow one - one moustache comb And of course top knotch shampoo n conditioner - many exhibitors like Vellus again it will depend upon your dogs coat which shampoo etc will work best.

| If you are getting a show quality Yorkie, wouldn't the breeder of your pup also be showing? In that case, they are bound to have lots of advise to give you. Just a warning: If the breeder isn't showing their dogs, your chances of getting a pup from them that is show quality are pretty slim. Don't just take their word for it that they produce show quality, they need to have wins in the ring to prove it.
