| Grooming behavior I don't know why Huey's behavior is getting worse with grooming, but he is wearing me out. Today I came away bleeding (just a little). I will not let him win, I am the boss, and the session doesn't end until he is acting right, but DANG! It is the face that is so bad. He is fine with the rest of his body. I take very extra special care to not pull his facial hair, but he has gotten in the habit of jerking away, and of course that causes the knots to pull, no matter how careful I am being. If he wasn't so cute with his long hair he would be in a puppy cut in an instant ... well that, and the fact that my husband would probably lock me out of the house if I cut his dog's hair off.

| Huey, you are too adorable to bite your mom! My boys are not always thrilled to have their faces combed. I remember Donna said of her grand champion boy Radar that he doesn't *love* to have his mustache combed. That made me feel so much better. I also know what you mean about jerking away. Max is worse about this, but he has learned "don't pull." I have to be really careful with Teddy that I don't get his whiskers caught in the comb. Ouch! What kind of tool do you use on his face/beard?

| I start with a soft bristle brush, move up to a detangling comb and finish with a fine toothed (human) mustache comb. I really try to be gentle, but what you said about whiskers really hit home because sometimes I will comb out a whisker. He doesn't seem to react to that any differently, but on the occasions I have found one in the comb, I have felt really bad, thinking that had to have hurt.

| Ouch! Would've never thought Huey would do such a thing! But can't stay mad @ that face... I use the small Madan pin brush, for everything. I put the brush vertically & brush down the side of their muzzle. It smooths out the hair & doesn't pull out their thinker whiskers like a comb would. If your pup is wiggly, the wooden pin brush would be a better option so it doesn't accidentally poke them in the eye. I mean, if it does, a wooden pin would do less damage than the steel pins. You can use your finger to cover their eye too. My guys are used to me brushing their face, so they just sit there very nicely & once we're done, I let them down from my lap & they start rubbing all over the place, messing up their nicely brushed hair. loll Kristin sells the wooden pin brushes.
