| Yorkie extreme itching after new groomer Hello- I took my yorkie to an new groomer last Tuesday. This groomer actually has yorkies of her own. When I picked her up I realized that the groomer must have used a razor on her because her hair was shorter than it has ever been. Previously she was always scissor cut. Anyhow, she has been biting her skin and itching like crazy and it has almost been a week since her appointment. Her skin does look red in certain spots. Any advise on what I should do? |

| I wonder if it's an allergic reaction to one of the products the new groomer used. Have you tried Benadryl and a bath in a shampoo that you know is not an issue? Where are these areas located that are the issue?

| I did try a bath in a gentle oatmeal shampoo. Her neck is really red and her stomach has actual little sores. I have an appointment with her vet this afternoon. Poor little girl is miserable. |

| Mine seem to itch for a few days after they have been groomed but mostly after they have been cut short. They were cut pretty short this last time but they don't have any bumps or sores. Sounds like she got the razor too close. Hope the vet decides it's nothing major.

| Took Mallie to the vet this afternoon. Determined she had allergies that were intensified by the super short shave and whatever products the groomer used. Thank goodness that I took her in because she also has an infected anal gland. She is on antibiotics, benadryl, and some topical spray. Hopefully, she is able to sleep tonight. Thank you everyone for your help! |

| I'm glad you went to the vet! Allergies and infected anal glands actually go together. Did the vet suggest adding fiber like pumpkin to the food? Bogey had anal gland issues and my vet said "ears and rears" as in ear infections and anal gland issues. We finally got it under control but it did take some work. Are you taking her back for a recheck?

| I have to take her back for a recheck in 2 weeks. How did you finally resolve the anal gland issue? |

| I'm glad you are going back for a recheck If there are continued concern you might consider changing food. For now pumpkin for add fiber won't hurt and might be a good idea. It's cheap and mine all love it. What I did was add about a tablespoon and a little warm water to their kibble to make a gravy. With Bogey it took 2 rounds of antibiotics and vet visits every 2 weeks for several months to get him back on track. I finally started to express his glands myself and he is back to working order now. What the vet explained to me is that if the glands are impacted and are not emptying properly they could form scar tissue so you need to work to get them back on track. Please check back and let us know how things go at her check

| We have an old wheaten terrier that had a terrible time with skin allergies, ear infections and anal gland issues. A few years ago we were able to put her on a good round of probiotics and the newer grain free- single protein (fish in her case), digestive enzymes foods have been amazing. Too bad there is no cure for her old age- but she has way less problems now than when younger! |
