| Madan Pin Brush So I am thinking of letting my Shih Tzu's coat grow out but she has a very cottony coat that mats easily.. I have heard people rave about the Madan Pin Brush and was curious if this would work for this type of coat.. How is this brush different than any other pin brush ? Is this like a Slicker brush ? |

| I love my Madan. The pins move with the coat so that the tangles glide through the brush...instead of getting caught up & pulling. The pins themselves bend a tiny tiny bit in the middle or sort of curve. It's a very slight curve though. They also bend at the base of the brush. A slicker brush's pins are tough, firmly attached to the base & always at a right angle in relationship to the base. A Madan's base is soft & rubbery, so the pins angle a tiny tiny bit during brushing. That tiny bit of give makes it much more gentle on the coat. I think you can get different grades of firmness in regard to that "bend". You should ask Jenny what the best kind is for a Shih Tzu. I got a Madan because everyone raved about about them & I was expecting a normal brush. I figured a brush is brush. But the first time I used it, I understood the hype & I totally fell in love. Lol. It glides through the coat like butter. I'm POSITIVE you'll love it.

| I love the Madan pin brushed too! Cooper has a very cottony coat that's hard to brush when it gets long. I bought the light blue, soft brush and it works miracles Contact Jenny at toplinepet.com and she can help you out. She's a member here but I forgot her username

| Love our Madan brushes from Jenny. We have both the firm pad (Black) and the soft pad (Blue). As Teresa indicated, the firmness of the pad determines how easily the pins bend. Jenny will advise you which is best for which coat.

| I love the madan bushes on silky coats. Not so much on the cotton coat -- I use a slicker brush instead with better results. I've heard slickers can break the coat but teddy is floor length silk and I have used it on him with no breakage.

Madan Oblong brushes would be a great option for your Shih Tzu. It has the firmest cushion & is a great alternative to a slicker brush w/out the scratchy pins. It brushes out the most stubborn of tangles & is awesome for line brushing bc of the shape. I have sold many to Maltese owners, Malts have thicker & softer hair than Yorkies. You can also go w/any of the Small, but I would go w/the Oblong. The above are great for all hair types & will brush out stubborn tangles, highly recommended for soft, cottony hair. If you would like a Regular sized brush, the Black w/Red cushion or Apple Green in firm would be good. Black w/Red is a little softer than the oblongs & the Apple Green would be equivalent, it's the firmest regular/medium sized oval brush. These will also brush out tangles easily & are great for soft, cottony tangles easily hair, highly recommended for med-long hair. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help! Thank you everyone for recommending toplinepet!
