| Did I wait toolong...:( Hi guys, I read this forum a lot, and finally became a member instead of spying I have a 1 year old and I finally started putting Emmy's hair in a top knot. I put it in in the morning, and take it out at night (learned from this forum!) consistantly for about 3 days. The thing is she keeps scratching at it, I make sure it isn't too tight...if I just keep doing it will she get used to it, or have I waited too late and she's too old? I can't watch her all day to tell her not to scratch...I WISH I could bring her to work...but I wouldn't get any work done... |

| She is only scratching up there when the topknot is in? And you are sure it's not too tight? What are you using to put her hair up in? A band? A scruncii? If it isn't anything she could be allergic to and it is only happening when the hair is up, I think it will just take time for her to get used to it. Maybe try it on the weekends for an hour or 2 and take it out..then an hour or two later that day..then out..etc.

| Huey is 4 and I just started the topknot. He scratches at it some and shakes his head a few times, but now seems to forget it is there after a bit. Emmy just needs to get used to it. A tiny scrunchie works well and is much gentler to remove than a little rubberband.

| I used the plastic bands (not the rubber ones) and I always cut them out, no matter when I put it in...but I think I will use the scrunchie idea for now, it just looks so EIGHTIES hahahahah SO I'll just be patient. I told her mommy had to learn how to wear high heels so she has to learn to have a top knot. |

| Don't give up. It will become natural to your pup. I have to admit, my boys are more comfy in their scrunchies than bands although the bands make for better topknots.

| I used scrunchies on Cooper as well, until the groomer chopped off his top knot yesterday. Ugh....any idea how long it will take to grow back? He's only six months old and his hair was finally long enough for one. I cried when she brought him out to me because now he looks like a Chihuahua -- she cut off ALL of his facial hair because she was running behind and it was faster for her to cut everything than take her time and trim it. Thankfully, the manager did not make me pay for the scalping.

Every dog's hair grows at different speeds. I cut Max's hair until he was about 5 months and then I started letting it grow. It wasn't too long before he had a topknot.
