| Yikes! His beautiful coat is gone Today the groomer came to groom Wallee. I mentioned that with wearing coats Wallee was beginning to mat much more. I told her to cut him quite a bit shorter especially trimming the hair under his arms... she cut all his beautiful hair off. Now with his long hair on his tail and face he looks like a typical s**tzu that we see so many of. I feel sad when I look at him and hope it grows quickly. I am happy we won't be battling the mats for a while but sad to see his soft coat gone. Also can anyone define a cotton coat for me? I always said his coat was cotton because it was curly however the groomer said the texture feels more silky to her. Is it possible to have a curl silky coat or am I right calling him a cotton? |

| Oh no. Sorry the groomer misunderstood, but his hair will grow out. Keeps a sweater or shirt on him so he stays warm up there in Canada. I'm curious if silky can be curly, too. I am still trying to decide if Mandie is silky or if she is like a modified...I wouldn't describe her coat as cotton, but it does have waves to it. The more it grows, the more I think it's silky, but other days, I think it has a cotton trait to it. She's not curly but very wavy.

| A cotton coat feels like cotton to me. My dog Winston is a cotton coat, but he is pin straight so I don't think curly vs. straight makes the distinction between cotton or silk. However, in the yorkshire terrier, a true silky coat will be pin straight, but a modified silky coat can be curly. Here is a pic of my Winston who has a cotton coat, you can sort of see the texture is thicker. He mats like crazy and it's tough to keep the coat longish without a lot of work. He also cannot get away with a cheaper or inferior conditioner, and I need to buy the good stuff for him. Don't worry, Wallee's hair will grow back! photo.JPG

| Awwww..Wallee looks so cute and if he is like Bogie the hair will grow back so fast!! Bogie's hair doesn't have curls and when long it is straight, but knots up like cotton balls. I fought with it for 2 years and now keep it shaved on his saddle and belly and just leave the tail, legs and face long. He wears clothing every day and you can't tell he doesn't have all of his hair Bogie's hair feels silky but it sure isn't or at least he mats if you look at him crosseyed. 100B1970 (200x133).jpg

| Thanks everyone. I am definitely going to keep him shorter. Just not this short. Worst part is it just snowed here yesterday and it's so cold outside. I feel guilty about that. Wallee will wear his coat out for walks but complains so much if I try to make him wear anything in the house. |

| Wallie looks adorable.... long or short hair! Maybe just a t-shirt in the house.... he may think a sweater is too hot.

| Awww, I think he looks cute but you could try the cut where they shave the body but leave the legs, tail and face longer. I think that would be a great look for him. I have one who has a more cotton or modified coat - Libby -and I shave her body but leave the legs face and tail longer and it looks adorable on her. I actually like grooming her myself more than the others because her hair is so thick that my mistakes don't show up as well and even if they do, her hair grows alot faster so we aren't stuck with it forever. My Zoe has a very silky coat and it's think and very slow growing so mistakes show up right away and I'm stuck with them forever! |

| He's so cute though!!! Don't worry, it will grow back! I've had my fair share of grooming nightmares too. I've seriously been considering a class or something. These YouTube videos aren't working for me anymore.

| Ziva's coat is very curly (after a bath it looks like she had a 70's perm!) but never matts. Her hair is so silky but fine so I keep the black on her body (the curly part) pretty short (2")because of breakage. |
