YT 1000 Club Member | To Pluck or not to Pluck Gurrrr.... I just got back from a $220 visit to the Vet, because my two guys were scratching their ears and flopping their heads back and forth with quite a bit of regularity. The Vet checked for Mites, Bacteria and any Fungal Infection, gave them both a Steroid Injection and was only able to tell me that their ears looked "irritated". Additionally, I just (a couple days ago) took them to the Groomer, where their Ears were "plucked". I wonder.... Just how necessary is this Plucking ? Wouldn't that depend on how dense the hair was in their Ears (sort of an elective procedure) ? If I keep their ears pretty clean anyway, is it really necessary ? Do you do this to your guys ?

| I don't have Jaeger's plucked, but his ears were never taped as a puppy, either, so they're quite bat like. |

| I don't have them plucked...I found that when the hairs start growing back in they make the dog scratch anyway so, for mine, I say no. |

| I pluck. I also use Bio-Groom ear cleaner after baths. No infections and no smells. No hair in there either.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | My groomer usually plucks the hair, but last time she didn't for some reason and Ralphie got an ear infection. The vet ended up plucking the ear hair, and I felt like a terrible mommy. To put in the cleaning drops and the ear medication, it had to be plucked. It's more difficult for the ear to dry out, if you don't pluck it and I think I may have gotten some water in his ear at his last bath. So my vote is pluck. Plucking shouldn't cause irritation, I wonder if she got water in the ears? I think I'd tell her about the irritation.

| Ear hair should be plucked - whether you or the groomer does it. If you do the plucking yourself, a bit of ear powder (talcum powder works) will help the tweezers grip the hair better. Hair in the ear canal traps moisture which frequently causes ear infections. After bathing, swimming, etc., be sure to thoroughly dry the ears. |

| I pluck. But sometimes the plucking can cause an irritation, esp. if they are not done on a regular basis. I always make sure to pluck, then clean and dry...and if they seem to be bothering her afterwards, I will sometimes use a couple of polysporin drops as a preventative for a couple of days. |
