| Hair Care w/ Chlorinated Pools Does anyone do anything special when a dog is swimming in chlorinated pools a lot, or water in general? I've never really done anything in the past but wonder if I should be to save his hair... I know when I swim my hair gets gross. And usually he doesn't even get a bath but once a week or once every 2 weeks, even while swimming all summer long. Maybe I could put a spray on him before he gets in the water? Or conditioner? I dunno... Any Thoughts??

| You could use apply baking soda dissolved in warm water and pour over the coat to neutralize the chlorine and rinse well. Bath with clarifying shampoo regularly - Chris Christensen has a clarifying shampoo that I have used.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Brit I really like CC clarifying shampoo, also Vellus as well. I was thinking with the warm summers you get; if you have an outdoor hose, it would be a quick job to shampoo with shampoo and then add some conditioner. When I go with Magic to the underwater treadmill, I also rinse off his legs/belly, and then bathe him with cc - after his third workout. How-ever in summertime, with lake water, I do put oil on his leg fur, and that helps a lot with the hair getting so dried out. Also do a deep conditioning treatment once per wk.

| GREAT!! Thanks guys. I love the CC stuff we have now so I'll buy some of the clarifying kind too. And thanks for the link ladyjane, I also am going to try this on my own hair. My hair takes a beating, because we have well water and I get color so it's awful for colored hair... plus it almost makes me feel like there's a film of iron on it. Then added pool water on top of it. I try to get a well water treatment every few weeks.. which does help.

A hairdresser, I think, once told me to put some conditioner in my hair while it's dry before hopping in the pool... and that can sometimes help....
