| Help new/temp. Groomer needed. (long) My dog groomer has cancer. Her business is on hold at the moment due to her medical treatment. I need to find a reasonable groomer in Hunterdon county, NJ area ( NJ/PA border on 78). Current groomer is 45 minutes from my house-willing to drive that far but would rather not. My groomer charge $35 for one yorkie but would only charge me $120 for four yorkies. She grooms all 4 in a little over 2 hrs- they always look great. I can't even wash and dry them in that time. She lets them free roam and only crates if she must. She takes one clients dogs at a time. Once she starts back up I'm going back to her. I have been looking for over a month- I have self groomed 3 of the four before but they were not pretty when I was done- not that they cared. It also took me over 4 hrs to cut the three- I washed them the day before. Roxy my littlest one I keep in a long coat most of the yr. But have her cut in the fall when she wears coats/ sweaters all the time- Otherwse she is a knotted mess. Most groomer I have called charge $60+. I will not spend that much on each girl. I won't even spend that much on myself and they see the salon already more than I do. Before someone starts to say the are an expensive breed to maintain I know. They get brushed at least once per day and washed weekly at least. Most of the year they are in semi to full length coats. Cozy, Zoey, and Lucy get cut shorter in the summer for their comfort but Roxy stays in full coat. I just need to find a one time groomer who will do a decent job for a reasonable price. The local polytechic program will attempt to groom them for $25 each- They can't do any worse than me. I say attempt because they are learning and you rather work on bombproof dogs which mine are not. I'm going to look at the place next week. It is only Roxy I worry about- The other 3 never seem to care how they look but Roxy does. Roxy normally gets a "Joey" like hair cut in the fall because a sweater is no her 24/7 during cold weather. The other 3 get short puppy cuts. Anyone else you polytechnic/grooming school for dog hair cuts? Thanks.
