| omg please do not do it. dread locks are very painful. i used to do dread locks on people as a profession. dread locks are matts, notts, tangles in the hair. most people who get them done cannot handle the pain and end up shaving them off. this breed is not meant for it and you would do nothing but cause your dog to be in pain and dis-comfort |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Pulis !!! When I lived in Boulder, CO - there were quite a few Pulis and Komondors - and I've never seen them anywhere but there. Btw, I would not let a Yorkie dreadlock at all... For anyone who hasn't see these breeders, here are some pics... Links for breed / history: Puli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Komondor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| I have dreadlocks and Ive had them for a little over 5 years now, and they do not hurt me at all. I also dont have huge fat ones either tho, I have skinnier dreads. The big fat ones may pull on your hair more so I can see that being bothersome or hurting I've also seen people start to get what looks like bald spots because their hair is being separated so tight for so long when they get fat dreads,, so I just wanted to let you know that that statement is not always true. I love my dreads and I don't even think of getting rid of them ever. I fix up the hair that grows in up at the roots throughout the day twisting them up at random and I wake up in the morning and don't need to do my hair anymore LOL I'll throw on a hat or a bandana and call it it a day haha.. I used to have to spend at least a hour straightening or curling my hair everyday before i got dreads..its a big difference tho, you have to really want them to get them because as you know, you cannot just easily take them out your haor, you kind of need to really be committed to having them =] |

| What I'm wondering is why is it okay for some dogs to have dreads and they just distinctively know not to scratch and put their nails in their dreads are you saying? But dogs like a Yorkie wouldn't know not to scratch The dreads in their hair? I'm confused on why it is so bad for a Yorkie to have dreads is all I would like to find out.. My dog starts to get matted at the roots and I have to pull it apart just like you would a dreadlock, I'm curious to know if I were to let these matted little pieces keep going and twist them up and keep them well maintained and all of relatively the same size why would it be so bad for the dog?? And I scratch my head and it doesn't hurt me it doesn't hurt to scratch dreadlocks all dogs are going to scratch even the ones that have dreads, and the dogs that you're talking about that grow dreads naturally if you want them to look nice you have to take care of them and keep them well maintained also. If anyone could answer my question I am just curious to know why it would be so bad to dread a Yorkie if they don't have silky straight hair they have thicker hair that tends to Matt at the roots and if you kept the dreads well maintained would it hurt the dog in anyway..? |
