| What Kind Of Nail Clippers... What kind of nail clippers should I get to clip Riley's nails? I have been taking him to the vet's office at $15 a pop...... He always gets a little nervous when they take him into the back. I feel like I can probably do it if I knew what I were doing and had the right type of clippers....and I am sure he'd probably be more comfortable with me doing it. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I use small cat nail clippers on my yorkie since she has tiny nails. I'd do with either of these types, depending on how thick her nails are: Master Grooming Tools Pet Nail Scissors Medium | PetEdge.com Professional Pet Nail Clipper w/Orange Handle | PetEdge.com they can both be found at petco or petsmart

| I use these: Millers Forge Pet Nail Clipper They are good for the price, but locked closed too easily (not a big deal). I have a pair of guillotene cutters and hate them.

| I was scared to death to do nails. My daughter in law is a vet tech and she showed me on a couple of the nails and then guided me through doing the rest myself. I was so scared on the first couple and then it was like..this isn't so hard. I did get Bogie's in the quick, but used they styptic pen and it stopped bleeding immediately. (I barely nicked the quick and he didn't even jump) Just make sure you have the styptic pen or powder just in case. If I can do nails(and I am a wimp) anyone can

| I am trying to find a picture online of the one I use. It has a safety bar on it where the nail butts up against, so when you put it over their nail, it can only cut off a very small amount at one time, no fear of cutting off too much or going to the quick with a small slip. I hit my Bichons' quick ONE time (he screamed, I cried!) and swore I would never do that again to any of my babies, lol. AprilLoves' nails are soooo freeekin tiny and all black, it is hard to tell where the quick is, so this is the best way for me. Also, on the dark nails, when you start to see a dark speck in the middle of the nail where you trimmed it, you are getting close to the quick. Loved learning that one.

| I really like the ones that are designed like the Dremmel. Instead of cutting the nail it sands it down. I found one for 20 dollars that is quiet and has wxtra sanders. It is really cool. Some of the Pedi Paws do not work well because they are moisy and scare the animals. this one is nice. It can be hard to find one that is not too expensive because they tend to be more pricey. But it is not impossible.

| Okay... I just ordered the Millers Forge Pet Nail Clipper. I am going to see if Riley will let me do his nails, at home. I am very nervous about it..... but figure I can at least start by taking a teeny bit off. |

| I need to start working w/ Jackson again on this He's sooo bad about getting his nails done. The thing is, he's not even like biting or moving his body, he just constantly moves his paws when I am trying to hold them still! Little stinker, he knows exactly what he is doing. Then I get nervous because he's moving them so much and I don't wanna cut them too short!! I am going to have to look into those clippers you were talking about AprilLove! Please let us know what brand they are if you can!
