| Advice on blades & combs for what I want to achieve After much reading, I'm trying to figure out what type of blade & comb attachments I need to get to keep Snickers's hair the length I want. I would like it to stay about 1.25 to 1.5 inches in length on the body...just a little less than it is now, but not much. I think he's got about 2" currently...but I'm terribly bad at judging the length of hair. When my groomer used to clip him, his hair was a bit shorter than this, but I would really like to keep it a bit longer. (My groomer has permanently injured her hand and so I'm opting to do my own grooming now...and it'll be the first time using clippers on a dog for me). I was looking at purchasing some of the Wahl Stainless Steel combs (my former groomer recommended that I buy metal and not plastic combs), but from what I can gather with my little bit of understanding, the longest length on these is 1". In looking at other metal combs, I couldn't really find anything longer than 1". Am I just not looking in the right places? Here are pictures of what Snickers looks like now....can someone with some knowledge please guide me to what #blade and combs I should use in order to keep the length I want? I have ordered Andis AGC Super 2-Speed Clippers. Thank you!

| Petsmart carries a set that has a 1&1/4 comb attachment. Andis 8 Piece Large Clipper Comb Set - Grooming - Dog - PetSmart I have an Oster clipper. I got several longer combs at Sally's Beauty. You can buy them separately there. They are supposedly universal. Oster - Universal Clipper Comb Attachments You will also need a #30 or #40 blade to use under the comb. Most clippers just come with a #10. |

I found a Oster Freestyle power cordless that is not so bulky, can be used corded or cordless. It has 5 in one adjustable blade settings, comes with combs and step by DVD. What's your thoughts on this one?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if your looking to get the whal stainless steel combs you can buy them all in a set so you can try the largest and go smaller if you want it shorter. Since yorkies have a drop coat the hair will be left longer then say a poodle coat when using the same comb just because the hair lays flat to the body. I use Andis clippers as well. Have the Andis ultra edge and the excel 5 speed. I also prefer the whal stainless steel combs. For yorkies you can use the 10 blade under the comb but i typically use a 30 blade underneath for most coat types. Most of my yorkie clients are cut shorter so i usually use a comb or blade going against the direction of the coat growth. This makes for a smoother overall finish. If you get the full whal set start with the E comb and use it with the lay of the coat. if that's too long, then go to the C, etc etc etc. Or you can take the E and go in reverse and see how short that takes it. Its all about trial and error in the beginning until you find something you like. A good pair of shears will also be needed to finish the legs because you will not be able to get a good finish with the combs on a tiny yorkie chicken bone leg. LOL
