| Getting used to the clippers? Jed does NOT like the clippers! AT ALL! I have been letting him take his midafternoon nap in my lap and I will turn the clippers on and get them closer and closer to him. Yesterday I was able to trim the hair on his feet. Well, three of his feet. Both back and 1 front. I can't imagine what would happen if I tried to do his ears!!! Much less his body. Any helpful hints for getting him used to it. I don't even want to think of taking him anywhere to have someone else do it. To many scary stories there! I would just rather do it myself and learn along the way but I just don't what to have him freaked out either. I did trim his behind with some sizzers also while he was asleep. |

| I have one Dudley, that will not let me use the clippers on him. He will let me cut his toenails. Then, there is Kayla!!!!!!!Oh, my. Kayla will let you use the clippers but you try to cut her toenails and she goes crazy. I have no advice except that I am going to just let Dudley's hair grow and take Kayla to the vets to get her nails clipped. There is one vet tech she likes and she will let him cut them. They are stubborn little buggers. lol!!!!! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | what kind of clippers are you using? are they really loud? When I'm introducing clippers to a puppy I first let the pup sniff the clippers while off. Then I turn them on and let them investigate (not near the moving parts though). Then I touch the clippers to the back end of the dog. I use the clipper body and not the blade, just so the pup can experience the vibrating of the clipper. After that I put the clipper to the body and go. I always do any and all grooming with the dog on a table with a grooming loop. Be gentle but firm. let the pup know you are going to cut his hair whether he likes it or not and it has to be done. talk to the pup the whole time and give treats when he offers good behavior. do not coddle or give in when he freaks out. Lastly, always end on a good note.
