| Question about coat please So Bella's shedding her puppy coat (I assume) and getting her adult coat. Down the center of her spine is turning a silver grey. At first it was mixed with the black, but now it is growing down and dominating especially by her mid back and before her tail starts. Her puppy coat to me feels like hwat has been described on here as a cotton coat. So, I assumed she would just have a cotton coat. But, the new hair is different. It is very shiny, straight and slick looking. It definately feels different to the touch! Being that Yorkies go through so many changes throughout achieving adulthood I was curious to know if this meant she would most likely have a silky coat? I know it's hard to tell via internet, but thought I would ask and see. It's not gonna change obviously how I feel about my precious angel (IDC if she was bald) again just a curious question. You guys are awesome and so knowledgeable and am sure have been asked this question a million times, so sorry if I sound like a broken record. lol Thank you

| Sounds like she will have a silky coat to me. Most puppies' coats are cottony. Hard to tell until it changes. Seems like most of the ones that stay dark are more cottony from what I have seen.

| Yep- her coat is changing to a nice silk- a lot easier to look after!! The cotton/wooly coats do not change color at too early and age- some never do- others will change to a silver/grey color but the texture will still be incorrect, and mat very easily!! |

| When I bathe our little guy his hair is very shiny and smooth/silky but after a day or so it is kinda rough and not so shiny. I can't bathe him as often as I would like. He has very dry skin. I have been switching his food to see if this will help. Our problem is finding the right food....very very picky eater. I'm curious what color he will end up. The top of his head is silver and when you spread his hair apart on his back it looks silver. |

| Are most smooth coats softer to the touch?

| Smooth looking coats are silky to the touch. Cotton coats are considered soft.

| Oh ok, I've just noticed since getting Bitsy groomed this last time (last friday) she is still very very soft feeling, and I had her cut a bit shorter than normal, which did away with alot of her black hair, now what is showing is gray looking.
