| Help! She hates her bath! My little Shadow is 8 months old and shakes like a leaf when it's bath time! I've had her since she was 14 wekks, I am the only one to bathe and groom her. We've never had any kind of incident, no water going up the nose, shampoo in the eyes, accidental nicking with clipper or scissors, nothing. She is actually getting worse. She used to shake when she actually got in the water, it's never too hot or cold, I am a stickler for that. Now, it's when she sees me getting everything ready! She doesn't whimper or cry, just shakes uncontrollably. I've tried lavender scents to calm, I've tried making sure the room is warm, treats, even talking to her in a singsong voice. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I hate having this weekly ritual be such a stressful situation for her. By the way, afterwards, she's fine. She runs to the carpet and rubs herself all over until she is a mess, then lays down and goes to sleep. It's as if she's saying "There, all that work for nothing! Humph!" |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I take Tuffy & Bella into the tub with me. During this past summer I bought kiddie pools for outside play & I think that was the turning point of bathtub not being fun. Maybe once it gets warm you can try that too. Tuffy thinks a bathtub is his own personal swimming pool now in fact. After we've gotten all clean I fill the tub up to about midway on his belly then hold him up a little so he can "swim". He's gotten so much fun out of this I think he looks forward to bathtime Is the water too warm? It took me awhile to find the right temp at first for Tuffy; he'd shake & shiver if the water was too warm (maybe because it made the air feel just that much cooler). Another idea is warming the towels you use. I also use a diffuser on my blow dryer set on low to dry them after they've done their rubbing around on extra towels on the bathroom floor. Good luck & hopefully some of the tips you get will help!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Morgan shakes when its bath time too. She's almost 5yrs old and I've been bathing her since she was 13 weeks. She's always done it. She stops shaking once she's in the tub and LOVES to dry off once its finished. That's her favorite part. She rubs herself all over and runs to the closet for me to get the blow dryer. she loves the blow dryer so much she even comes to me on non-bath days (for her) when i'm drying my hair so she can get a blast.

| I use an Andis QuietAire dryer. It's on a stand. Shadow has a thick cottony coat so it does take time to dry her. But if I have her in my arms and go to rinse my hand in the sink, she freezes up like she's getting a bath. I bath her in the laundry room sink, I've wondered if it would be better in a regular tub that's larger? |

| Have you tried giving treats while bathing? I just do my little guy in the kitchen sink and keep treats nearby. As we go through the process I give him treats. One after he gets wet at first, then after shampoo, then after rinse, then conditioner, etc. If you give a high value treat it will be even better. I have tried using the clicker during bath too, since we do clicker training, and click when he is being a good boy. He HATES water doesn't enjoy his bath, but tolerates it.

| Get the bathroom nice and warm first. Then just go slow with her. Make sure the water isn't too hot or cold. Try to give her a regular bath about once every 8-10 days so she gets used to it. She'll be okay once she knows what to expect.
