| She Breaks Her Hair!! I have been so diligently caring for my dog's hair so to grow it out from the crazy puppy cut she had when I got her. We are doing great with the grow out, as painful as it was for the first year. Hair above the nose poking up in front of the eyes as it grew out! What a pain. Note: What I did was I brought a small amount of water and flax seed to a boil, took off heat, strained and cooled. The gel works great for keeping pesky hairs down! Well we got her hair to the point we can do all sorts of neat things with it but at a length on her head that if it is not put back it will fall into her eyes and even into her mouth when she plays, drinks or eats. Say right after a bath and dry. I wait a bit because after her bath she will rub on the carpet and furniture as well as her blanket and towel. If I put her hair up before I let her down to do her rubbing, I risk her hair breaking. Trouble is this: Before the frost, freezing and snow, with her hair up, we go for a walk. She finds a nice piece of grass and down she goes. Rubbing like crazy, her face and her back, pushing her head up and back so the top of her head inevitably gets in the mix. Right where her pony is. Result: Serious breakage on one side just in front of her ear. Now we have to wait for another six months again before we can get it back into the pony, never mind a top knot. Growth to allow for a top knot will probably take a year from now. How do we deal with this? Sometimes a dog will rub on the carpet rolling around when our backs are turned. For those who use top knots and or ponys, do you ever experience such breakage? Am I the only one? I can not walk her or anything else for that matter unless her hair is up or for one, she can't see. I have stopped her from rolling in the grass but other times not and now I am paying for it. All I can think of is to take her out with just a clip in her hair, lead her to a nice piece of grass, take the clip out and and hope that she will take that opportunity to roll until she is content. Cutting her hair is not an option. If I cut the hair on top of her head, so it is not so long it falls into her eyes, then I have to do the part on her nose, between her eyes also because that gets pulled up into her pony right now as well. So is why I figure cutting isn't an option. I don't want to have to cut the hair by her eyes on her nose because grow out is a major pain. We put it all up instead. Now she has a rather sizable piece that wont go into a pony because it is broken off short :0 For us, me this has been an ongoing problem. Any input from those with experience would be greatly appreciated. I feel responsible for this to have happened .. I don't know what to do. |

| This is a wild guess, but does she do it (the head rubbing) when she does not have a pony tail (top/knot) in? Chances are you could be pulling it too tight to her scalp and that is why she is rubbing. It is really important to not put it in so tight that it pulls on their scalp or corners of their eyes. I always keep at least a thumbs thickness between the band and their little heads. For the breakage, you can try using Vellus Satin Creme. One of my girls has really fine hair, and it doesn't grow fast on her head, and it breaks easily. I have been using Vellus and it is helping it stay thicker and not break as easily.

| I definitely feel your pain. Seems like we have been trying to grow Zhoie's hair on her head forever. It grows so very slow. Good luck, it will eventually grow out.

I bought it here: Vellus Inc. - Vellus Satin Cream But I am sure there are other vendors that sell it on line. I always put it on after a bath, mostly on her ends on her body, and in her top knot hair especially, since this is where it tends to be thin, and break easily. Then just work it in sparingly, let it dry a bit, then brush. Maybe about the size of a quarter in the palm of my hand? I use a little dab on her top hair whre the band goes in for her pony tail every day before I put a pony in. The bands cut out much easier and no hair comes with it. I let it dry before putting her pony up. The biggest difference i have seen is less split ends on her coat, top knot hair, and thicker hair growth on her head than what it was.

| Ok, I'm going to put some on her hair ends after her bath and also put it on her topknot everyday. I taking it, I don't need to rub it into the skin, correct. Thanks so much Mary Kay. These little stinkers are alot of work, lol. We all love it though. Can't wait to see your girls in snow the pictures...last winters was beautiful. At times I still look back on them.

I don't really put it in her skin just the hair, but the jar does say it is bio-balanced for hair and skin so I don't think it would be a bad thing. Thanks so much for the compliments on the girls We have had soooooooooooo much snow here, we've spent most of the winter digging it out , the babies have not had much snow play time yet.

| Mommy Mommy My Pony Tail's Too Tight First off, your babies are most adorable! Thank you kindly for your response as well as posting the link as to where one may obtain the Vellus. Great tips! As for the rolling and rubbing. It is possible her hair is too tight as I had done that in the beginning. Oh she let me know immediately once her paws hit the floor that her hair was too tight. I have been careful to keep it loose for her but perhaps it is still too tight. In the beginning, if it were uncomfortable for her she would just rub on the floor. She can have a pony in for sometime before we are out for a walk and run into a patch of luscious grass that she seems she just has to roll in. Roxy always has something to tie her hair back with now a days, otherwise she can't see. I feel it is just a dog thing. They like to roll in the grass. Especially if it is freshly mowed! For whatever reason. I see other dogs doing it too. I try to be most careful that there is no pulling that I can see and do check again before she is off the table. I will be more careful and take a closer note. I sure appreciate your input and thanks again for the tips. Roxy's hair is so delicate and fine. Gladly I have not seen any split ends as I do check. Love your photos. Cheers! Quote:

| I use bands in Fido's hair wich get loose and drop of if he tries to take it of, then I just put it in again, so his hair wont break and get ugly. Thats just bands as people use, just find really small ones, for children

Yes it does have a scent to it, but I am very bad at describing smells, unless it is food, lol I am smelling it right now and thinking a very light floral scent? it is not a strong scent when it is on the babies, but it does have a scent. Maybe someone else will pop in with a better description.

| I cannot describe what the scent is, but I agree with MaryKay that it is light and pleasant. My sensitive nose, and my boys' picky noses, approve of all the Vellus products.

| Okay, nice. Thank you. It is hard to find good products to use on Roxy, even 100% natural ones as she must approve of the scent or else it is pretty much a no go or a fight. Hopefully she will approve. Thank you kindly. |

Thanks for all your information...I think I will give that a try as Lexi's head is such a problem. Very thin on top and having a hard time to get it to grow. Does this product make their hair look greasy? Lexi already has that problem too...LOL How about the shampoo's and conditioners do you use them too? By the way your little ones are beautiful...wish Lexi's hair looked like that. But, she is beautiflul too...just wish the hair on top of her head was in better condition. thanks again, hugs Cheryl & Lexi
